ZAPAT!STAS!
THE THREAT OF A GOOD EXAMPLE
a night of solidarity, education and celebration
Nicol Edwards, 29-35 Niddry Street, off the High St, Old Town, Edinburgh,
EH1 1LL
Date: Wednesday, 16th February 2005
The Zapatistas of south-east Mexico continue to build autonomy and
grass-roots resistance to capitalism, providing an inspiration to radical
movements worldwide.
* Land in a large area of Chiapas state has come under common
ownership.
* Indigenous communities build and run their own Health Clinics and
Schools.
* Effects of centuries of abuse and exploitation at the hands of the
state and large landowners has begun to recede.
A new way of doing politics emerges.
The Edinburgh Chiapas Solidarity Group calls for a night of solidarity,
education and celebration in support of the Zapatista resistance and
rebellion. Find out more about our twinned community in Chiapas, and the
work we do to support the autonomous municipality of '16 DE FEBRERO'. All
proceeds will be used to fund the construction of a health clinic in the
municipality.
FILM - 'STORM FROM THE MOUNTAIN' - 8.00pm - Free/ donation
24 zapatista ski-masked rebel leaders are joined by thousands of indigenous
Mexicans on a march across Mexico to address the Mexican congress seeking
democracy, liberty, and justice. Followed by a discussion with two members
of the edinchiapas solidarity group on their experiences in Chiapas.

Finally, there will be a benefit gig on the 27th Feb, with the proceeds
being split between ACE and Reshape, details as below:
KADDISH(tbc)
Dundee's tech-violence masters make a welcome return to the capital with
their Union Of Uranus-esque noise. If you've never heard them before,
imagine raw, black metallish riffs dragged kicking and screaming to mathy
song structures, overlaid with impassioned, screamy vocals.

COLLAPSE OF REASON
Local death metal, think a mix of Carcass and Soilent Green- blistering
grind with some sludge parts.
www.collapseofreason.i8.com
ATOMGEVITTER
Fast, thrashy hardcore from Glasgow, often compared to DS13 and Heresy.
Former/current members of The Process, Los Destructos and Eat Yer Greens.

TWENTY CENTURIES OF SLEEP
Apocalyptic hardcore from Glasgow, influenced by the likes of Tragedy and
>From Ashes Rise. I can also hear echoes of mid 90s emo bands like Frail in
their demo tracks. Think bruising riffs overlaid by bleak melodies and
desperate vocals.

TODAY WE FIGHT
More fast hardcore, this time in a Bane/Champion vein.
