Sorry you haven't heard from asked for so long -- we've been up to our

skills, connect with fellow workers and help make ACE even more

Something is profoundly wrong with capitalist globalisation as
neo-liberal policies continue to increase the disparity between rich
and poor. What is the alternative? Michael Albert has written
extensively on this subject. His latest book is Realising Hope: Life
Beyond Capitalism. Aijaz Ahmad is a leading Marxist thinker, critic
and commentator. His forthcoming book is Whose Century, Whose
Millennium: Reflections on Our Times.

Helen Moore (formerly of Edinburgh!) will be discussing the challenges
of and journey towards a more sustainable future from Changing Nature:

environment." Mark Lynas

2) The "i" film is an oustanding new film made by two young filmakers
from Indymedia Argentinia.
As Naomi Klein wrote: "When the world turned briefly upside down, this
film fell out. "i" positively vibrates with the energy and creativity
of the movement it documents. Beautiful, intellectual, riotous, it
fits in no box (and no blurb), just see it!"
As part of their world tour they are doing three screenings in Scotland:
Sat Oct 14 - Glasgow - Document 4 Intl. Human Rights Film Festival -
350 Sauchiehall Street Glasgow (Cinema 5) - 12 pm - www.cca-glasgow.com
www.camcorderguerillas.net
Sunday Oct 15 at 7 pm at the Quaker Meeting House (off Victoria
Terrace, off George IV Bridge) and
Monday Oct 16 at 7.30 pm at the Forest cafe, Bristo Place, Edinburgh.
"i" is a meditation on the relationship between media and power as it
is manifested by the worlds largest all volunteer network of media
activists — Indymedia. The feature-length documentary follows the
first year of a small collective in Buenos Aires as it struggles
amidst assassinations, a collapsing economy, and a whirlwind of
political upheaval.
The screenings are free and all are welcome, please come along support
Indymedia and see a great film.

Anarchism & Sexuality: ethics, relationships and power
4 November 2006
University of Leeds
Sponsored by the Specialist Group for the Study of Anarchism
www.sgsa.org.uk
Anarchism offers a tremendous body of knowledge and practice
challenging the legitimacy of coercion, domination and rigid social
hierarchies. Sexuality is a realm of social life all too frequently
characterised by (or produced through) hierarchy. Both in theoretical
writing and other forms of social action, anarchist traditions are
rarely acknowledged for their potential in addressing issues of
sexuality. Likewise, in much of the anarchist tradition, sexuality has
been and continues to be all too frequently marginalised. But exciting
things happen in the margins!
The invitation for papers resulted in an unexpected response and we
are able to offer a packed day including six sessions covering a
diverse range of topics. But, you can see for yourself. The full
programme with abstracts is now available online at the conference
website - http://anarchist-studies.org.uk/conference/
Please note: while this is clearly an 'intellectual' event, we aim for
the conference to be accessible and engaging to a wider audience than
many conferences held in universities. Folk who want to think, talk
and play with ideas about anarchism and sexuality are all most welcome
to attend!
To register for the event, please send the following items -
* a cheque payable to be University of Leeds for £25 (25GBP) if waged
and £5 (5GBP) if low waged, unwaged or otherwise skint
* your e-mail address (or postal address if you don't really do email)
* tell us whether you are happy to be subscribed to the conference
discussion email list
* any dietary requirements
* if you would appreciate having the conference be child friendly.
Ideally, we do wish to include parents and are happy to see if we can
work something out with those of you who may like to bring along
children.
