[ACE] ACE needs your support

[Notice of events from the Autonomous Centre]

                    Now we need your support again 

                         to keep ACE thriving 


The Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh premises were recently under threat
of closure. Our landlord applied to the City of Edinburgh Council for
permission to turn ACE into a flat. 


However there was a huge groundswell of support for ACE and the Council
were deluged with over 250 objections to the plans. As a direct result
of this the Council planning committee voted in August 2007 to reject
the landlord’s application. Thanks to everyone for your support, it made
all the difference.


And there is more good news - we have now obtained a new 3 year lease
from the landlord, giving us security of tenure till August 2010.


But in order to obtain the new lease, it was necessary to agree to our
rent doubling to £300 per month. We need to significantly increase ACE’s
income to meet this increased expenditure, and to pay all our bills. We
need to do this before the end of 2007, or we will run out of money and
be unable to continue.


HOW YOU CAN HELP


* Take out a standing order to ACE. This is an invaluable way to support
us financially. Standing orders give us a reliable regular income. We
already receive £100 per month this way, but we are confident we can
greatly increase that. Even £2 per month is a good help. If you can
afford a fiver or a tenner that would be fantastic. (If you think about
it £10 per month is the equivalent of a pint of beer a week… ACE is
worth that!) A standing order form is included at the end of this e mail
message, you can print it out and deliver it to your bank.


* Make a donation to ACE. Regular membership donations are particularly
valuable, see the form at the end of this message, while one-off
donations are also very welcome. If you are a taxpayer the value of your
donation can be increased through Gift Aid, you can do this by returning
the form at the end of this message. Please make out cheques to
AUTONOMOUS CENTRE OF EDINBURGH. Donations in kind also welcome, eg
books, printing paper, office supplies, etc..


* Propose to a group you are involved in, that they use ACE facilities,
and make a donation. We have a meeting room, film projector, storage
space, photocopying, computers with broadband, a mailing address c/o
ACE, and more.


* Help organise fundraising events for ACE. Gigs, socials, jumble and
car-boot sales, sponsored walks, raffles, funding applications… all
ideas welcome. 

A new group has just got underway, to organise regular fund-raising
socials for ACE, with music and spoken word, if you are interested in
getting involved in this, please get in touch.


* Buy food from Leith Wholefoods and books, mags, pamphlets etc from the
ACE info shop.


* Volunteer at ACE, eg help out staffing Leith Wholefoods. The more
people involved, the more active we can be, the more often we can be
open – and the more income will be generated to keep ACE going. 


* Call in any time ACE is open to see what’s going on, come to a monthly
meeting, or e mail or phone.
