Bush wants to test every American for mental illness--including
you! And guess who will create the tests?
By Jordanne Graham, Intervention Magazine
Next month, President Bush plans to unveil a broad new mental
health plan called the "New Freedom Initiative." Never mind that
it couldn't have less to do with freedom; if you're a thinking
American, this initiative should scare the hell out of you.

Iraqi Gov't Shuts Down Aljazeera; Former Spy Heads New Media
Board
by Chris Shumway, The New Standard
International media watchdogs say Iraq's US-installed interim
government is seriously undermining the prospects for press
freedom in the war-torn country. Citing both the shut down of
Aljazeera's Baghdad office last weekend and a series of recent
policies enacted by Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, critics fear that
Iraq's media environment is in danger of becoming as stifling as
it was under former dictator Saddam Hussein.

DHS Sweeps: Bush's War on Latino Workers
By Joel Wendland
Various reports from local media and human rights activists show
that immigration sweeps have occurred in Latino communities from
Maine, to Chicago, Washington State, the Southwest, and Southern
California. The upsurge in sweeps in Latino communities comes in
the larger context of raids and surveillance aimed at immigrant
Asian and African communities suspected of harboring terrorists.

Police State USA
by Rep. Ron Paul, Antiwar.com
Many Americans support the new security measures because they
claim to feel safer when the government issues terror alerts and
fills the streets with militarized police forces. As one tourist
interviewed this week said, "It makes me feel comfortable to know
that everything is being checked." It is ironic that tourists
coming to Washington to celebrate the freedoms embodied in the
Declaration of Independence are so eager to give up those
freedoms with no questions asked.

Terrorism and Tyranny
by James Bovard, Strike the Root
The war on terrorism is the first political growth industry of
the new millennium. After the September 11 attacks on the World
Trade Center and the Pentagon, President George W. Bush promised
to lead a "crusade" to "rid the world of evil-doers."
Unfortunately, the political fallout from the 9/11 attacks could
fatally blight both individual liberty and public safety.

Worried about oil running out? Don't look now, but natural gas is
next on the endangered hydrocarbons list.
By Jeff Nachtigal, salon.com
The primary thrust of "High Noon for Natural Gas" is that, unless
we unplug as much as we can from our energy-dependent ways, we're
headed off a cliff, and the crash at the bottom won't be pretty.
