Post-Mortem: Let the Disobedience (and the Real Work) Begin
By Mickey Z.
So...it seems the shorter of the two rich straight white male Yale-educated
war criminals won, huh? The rancher beat the windsurfer. George W. Bush
finally knows what it feels like to win a presidential election and thus
will remain the public face of the American Empire for a little while
longer.

Massive Effort to Mobilize New Voters A Failure
Despite the massive efforts to mobilize young people to participate in a
pointless act of political powerlessness and idiotic conformity, the much
anticipated youth vote didn't materialize. The proportion of the youth vote
flatlined at the same level as in 2000.

American Idiot (Humor)
A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is an American. She
asks her students to raise their hands if they were American too. Not really
knowing why but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into
the air like flashy fireworks. There is, however, one exception.

"God Condemn America"
Robert Jensen, CounterPunch
We sit in darkness; there is no point in pretending otherwise. The imperial
project of the United States is rotted to the core, a fact neither candidate
nor party seems able or willing to acknowledge. Bush's election is
disturbing mostly because it reveals just how many fellow citizens share in
that wicked project. So, God condemn America, please, so that the world
might live.

Four Decades of Imperial Hubris
David H. Hackworth, Soldiers for the Truth
"Bin Laden has been precise in telling America the reasons he is waging war
on us," writes "Anonymous," the author of Imperial Hubris, a critically
important book that defines Osama and what's driving his bombers. And the
reasons don't "have anything to do with our freedom, liberty, and democracy,
but have everything to do with U.S. policies and actions in the Muslim
world."

Damn politics, let's dance
By Pepe Escobar, Asia Times
The widely sung-and-danced-to youth vote never materialized. The 18-to-29
generation voted in exactly the same numbers as in 2000: first-time voters -
a pro-Kerry majority, worried about the economy and the war on Iraq - were
only 10% of the electorate. The 30-to-44 group was even more scarce. So much
for great expectations. An army of Democrats, an army of pollsters and even
a few Republicans made fools of themselves. The youth vote meant, in
essence, "damn politics, let's dance".
