Confessions of a Scary Anti-capitalist, Anti-authoritarian Journalist
by IMC Journalist, NC Indymedia
Recent events in Raleigh, North Carolina brought a significant amount of
attention to political activism and protest strategies in the area. The
purpose of this story is not to either give support or speak out against the
protest that happened at the GOP office last week. I believe you as a reader
are capable of coming to your own conclusions over the events that occurred.
Instead, I want to discuss how the local media and authorities have searched
for a scapegoat in both individuals and organizations.

Dissecting an Associated Press Story
by Abid Ullah Jan, Media Monitors
Associated Press ran a story, "U.S. Troops Push Deeper Into Fallujah," by
Edward Harris on November 12, 2004. Dissecting this story is imperative for
understanding complicity of the media in the American genocide that is well
underway in Iraq. This is just one story from one embedded reporter. Imagine
the impact of the over all mission of the embedded media. Imagine the level
of collaboration between the killers in the killing fields, policy makers in
Washington and many think tanks, and media pundits in the "mainstream media"
in the garb of reporters and analysts from the following analysis.

Iraq: the unthinkable becomes normal
By John Pilger, New Statesman
According to a senior British officer, the Americans view Iraqis as
Untermenschen, a term that Hitler used in Mein Kampf to describe Jews,
Romanies and Slavs as sub-humans. This is how the Nazi army laid siege to
Russian cities, slaughtering combatants and non-combatants alike.
Normalising colonial crimes like the attack on Fallujah requires such
racism, linking our imagination to "the other".

Murder and Genocide in Iraq
Iraqi Girl Blog, Baghdad Burning
People in Falloojeh are being murdered. The stories coming back are
horrifying. People being shot in cold blood in the streets and being buried
under tons of concrete and iron... where is the world? Bury Arafat and hurry
up and pay attention to what's happening in Iraq.

A thousand Fallujahs
By Pepe Escobar, Asia Times
Once again the US has been caught in a giant spider's web. Fallujah now is a
network: it's Baghdad, Ramadi, Samarra, Latifiyah, Kirkuk, Mosul. Streets on
fire, everywhere: Hundreds, thousands of Fallujahs - the Mesopotamian echo
of a thousand Vietnams. The Iraqi resistance has even regained control of a
few Baghdad neighborhoods.

Pyrrhic Victory in Fallujah
by Dahr Jamail, Antiwar.com
A military victory for U.S. forces in Fallujah seems set to lead to a huge
political loss for the U.S.-backed interim Iraqi government. Strong
anti-government reactions have set in already as reports come in from
Fallujah of bombed hospitals, high civilian casualties, and denial of access
to medical care. The political fallout could fall far beyond Iraq.

"We're committing genocide in Iraq"
By Jeff Riedel, WSWS
"As far as I'm concerned, the real war did not begin until they saw us
murdering innocent civilians," he said. "I mean, they were witnessing their
loved ones being murdered by US Marines. It's kind of hard to tell someone
that they are being liberated when they just saw their child shot or lost
their husband or grandmother."

Submit or Die: The Conquest of Falluja
by Jacob G. Hornberger, FFF
The crime for which the Fallujans were punished was their refusal to submit
to the authority of an unelected CIA-designated dictator, Iyad Allawi, and
to obey the orders of his all-powerful police force (the U.S. military), a
police force that is significantly more powerful than the one that Saddam
Hussein used to put down insurrections against his regime. The message sent
to Iraqis at Falluja is very simple and, in fact, is no different in
principle from the message sent to the Iraqi people from Abu Ghraib prison:
"Resist us or disobey us - or countenance those who do resist us or disobey
us - and we will punish you."

Palestine Greater Than Arafat
Sam Bahour, Electronic Intifada
The Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence is larger than the
late President Yasir Arafat. The decades-long symbolism that Arafat embodied
should not be underestimated. It is this symbolism that Palestinians are
mourning. The substance of Arafat's symbolism has to do with how it has
represented Palestinian nationalism and the five decade struggle for justice
for a people that were dispossessed in 1948, militarily occupied in 1967,
attacked while in exile in 1970 in Jordan and 1982 in Lebanon, and most
recently, battered in their own homes in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East
Jerusalem. A wide spectrum of opinions about Arafat, the man and the leader,
will surely outlive the international flurry of media interest in his death.
However, the world must be aware that the Palestinian struggle is beyond any
single individual.

Gonzales' Appointment is a Danger to Human Rights
Joel Wendland, Dissident Voice
As Bush prepares to send his nomination of Alberto Gonzales for Attorney
General to the Senate for its "advice and consent," let's recall who Mr.
Gonzales is and what his enduring imprint on history may be. Gonzales
authored the infamous August 2002 torture memo for the Bush administration
that provided hair-brained arguments for discarding the Geneva Conventions.
This appointment affirms Bush's rejection of international oversight of
human rights and signals a dramatic right wing shift.
