Bring it all down: An interview with Derrick Jensen

The more writing and thinking and feeling and observing that I do,
the more clear it becomes to me that civilization needs to come
down now.

The Coming of Deindustrial Society: A Practical Response
By John Michael Greer, HubbertPeak.com

With the coming of Peak Oil and the beginning of long-term,
irreversible declines in the availability of fossil fuels (along
with many other resources), modern industrial civilization faces a
wrenching series of unwelcome transitions. This comes as a
surprise only for those who haven't been paying attention. More
than thirty years ago, the Club of Rome's epochal study The Limits
to Growth pointed out that unless something was done, a global
economy based on fantasies of perpetual growth would collide
disastrously with the hard limits of a finite planet sometime in
the early twenty-first century. The early twenty-first century is
here, nothing was done, and the consequences are arriving on
schedule.

The Liberal Holocaust: Imperialism and the Democratic Party

Many people involved in US anti-war movement(s) have this naive
belief that Democrats are not imperialists, that US imperialist
policies, such as those pursued by the Bush administration, are
just a recent deviation or limited to Republican administrations.
In fact, the Democratic Party has a long and bloody history of
imperialism. Democrats are imperialists and mass murderers. Nor is
this limited to the more conservative democrats; left-liberals
have done the same. Liberal governments have slaughtered millions.

We Are The People Who Fear Nothing
Kirsten Anderberg

There is a point where the soul has to disengage to endure, just
as Anne Cameron describes. Jails are one of the places this
occurs. Poverty is another one of these soul disengaging
situations. Rape is another. The problem is that once people have
learned how to disengage their souls when being abused by powers
that be, the powers that be lose traction rapidly. This is the
breeding grounds for anarchy. This lack of fear, mixed with
sincere and righteous hatred of abusive and brutal authority, is
as old as humans. Mix that with some hopelessness and nothing left
to lose, and you have raw power.

Columbus Day Celebration? Think Again...
by Thom Hartmann, Common Dreams

Dr. Jack Forbes, Professor of Native American Studies at the
University of California at Davis and author of the brilliant book
"Columbus and Other Cannibals," uses the Native American word
wétiko (pronounced WET-ee-ko) to describe the collection of
beliefs that would produce behavior like that of Columbus. Wétiko
literally means "cannibal," and Forbes uses it quite intentionally
to describe these standards of culture: we "eat" (consume) other
humans by destroying them, destroying their lands, taking their
natural resources, and consuming their life-force by enslaving
them either physically or economically. The story of Columbus and
the Taino is just one example. We live in a culture that includes
the principle that if somebody else has something we need, and
they won't give it to us, and we have the means to kill them to
get it, it's not unreasonable to go get it, using whatever force
we need to.

Climate fear as carbon levels soar: Scientists bewildered by sharp
rise of CO2 in atmosphere for second year running
By Paul Brown, The Guardian

An unexplained and unprecedented rise in carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere two years running has raised fears that the world may
be on the brink of runaway global warming. Scientists are baffled
why the quantity of the main greenhouse gas has leapt in a
two-year period and are concerned that the Earth's natural systems
are no longer able to absorb as much as in the past.

The Next French Revolution May Be Taking Place at the Water Cooler
By Sebastian Rotella, Los Angeles Times

Maier's satiric book, which denounces corporate culture as rigid,
empty-headed, avaricious and ruthless, has zoomed to the top of
the bestseller lists here, selling more than 120,000 copies at
last count. In urging office workers to smile and look busy while
sabotaging the system from within, she has ignited a national
debate about the French work ethic -- or lack thereof.

Energy transition and final energy crisis
Andrew McKillop, VHeadline.com

For oil, the myth of OPEC always being the 'supplier of last
resort' has in 2004 already been discredited if not finally
destroyed. Soon after the present and short-term 'price crisis'
... which can only intensify in the 2005-2008 period ... and
within at most 10 years, both oil supply and natural gas supply
will enter into constant and terminal decline, due to physical
depletion.
