100,000 Murdered Iraqis: A "Model for How Democracy Can Take Hold"
By Kurt Nimmo
If we are to believe the corporate media-the Strausscon lie machine on
steroids-only "insurgents" were killed in Fallujah. "Like the Nazi media,
the major US radio and TV networks only report what they call 'military
casualties' -failing to report the civilians killed since the war started
and the thousands of women and children killed and wounded since the assault
of Fallujah began," writes James Petras. "The mass media fabricates a web of
lies to secure a gloss of legitimacy for totalitarian methods in order that
the US armed forces continue to destroy cities with impunity. The technique
perfected by Goebbels in Germany and practiced in the US is to repeat lies
and euphemism until they become accepted 'truths', and embedded in everyday
language."

FBI investigating incidents on Infoshop News and Flag.blackened.net
I'm under court order not to speak about specifics and have my attorney
trying to find out what the maximum penalty for disclosure really is. I hate
to have to keep my mouth shut in areas where the Gestapo is involved, but I
also have to weigh things against the overall security of flag and its
subdomains and also the wellbeing of my family.

People Power: An Interview With David Solnit
Katie Renz, Mother Jones
As a member (and co-founder) of Art and Revolution, a loose-knit collective
combining art and theater with direct action, this creativity-with-a-purpose
stands in a colorful tradition of theatrical dissent, from the Diggers, the
Yippies, and the French Situationists of the 1960s. Solnit and his
predecessors subvert the system, and point to alternatives, showing, by
means of blatant contrast, how fundamentally flawed the "normal" state of
affairs can truly be.

Army Recruiters on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Yoshie Furuhashi, Critical Montages
Signs of desperation for recruitment abound in the US military. The Army
Reserve has not met its monthly recruitment quota since last October. Having
already begun to accept more recruits without high school diplomas last
year, the Army raised "the maximum enlistment age from 34 to 39" for the
National Guard and the Army Reserve this year.

The Battle for America's Youth
Kevin B. Zeese, Antiwar.com
Counter-recruitment has become a key battleground in the effort to stop the
war in Iraq and prevent future military adventures by President Bush and a
compliant Congress. The U.S. Army admits that it expects to miss its
recruiting goals this month and next and is working on a revised sales pitch
appealing to the patriotism of parents. Last week, nationwide demonstrations
kicked off in Washington, D.C., including an event at an Army recruitment
center, and in many cities, demonstrations were held outside of recruitment
offices.

The Long Emergency
James Howard Kunstler, Rolling Stone
It has been very hard for Americans -- lost in dark raptures of nonstop
infotainment, recreational shopping and compulsive motoring -- to make sense
of the gathering forces that will fundamentally alter the terms of everyday
life in our technological society. Even after the terrorist attacks of 9/11,
America is still sleepwalking into the future. I call this coming time the
Long Emergency.

Two-thirds of world's resources 'used up'
Tim Radford, The Guardian
The human race is living beyond its means. A report backed by 1,360
scientists from 95 countries - some of them world leaders in their fields -
today warns that the almost two-thirds of the natural machinery that
supports life on Earth is being degraded by human pressure. The study
contains what its authors call "a stark warning" for the entire world. The
wetlands, forests, savannahs, estuaries, coastal fisheries and other
habitats that recycle air, water and nutrients for all living creatures are
being irretrievably damaged.

Jonah Gindin, Venezuelanalysis.com
Philip Agee is a former CIA operative who left the agency in 1967 after
becoming disillusioned by the CIA's support for the status quo in the
region. Says Agee, "I began to realize that what I and my colleagues had
been doing in Latin America in the CIA was no more than a continuation of
nearly five-hundred years of this, exploitation and genocide and so forth.

Iraqis' right to resist occupation
Sharon Smith, Socialist Worker
Liberal commentator Geov Parrish leveled harsh criticism at March 19 antiwar
protesters in the Seattle Weekly, belittling antiwar rallies as "a pep rally
for activists." Parrish argued, "Opposition to this war should be rooted in
what is best for this country." But this reasoning can easily backfire on
the antiwar movement, since "this country" is the U.S. Empire. Already, the
antiwar Web site MoveOn.org has pandered so far to the "we can't cut and
run" crowd that opposition to the Iraq occupation disappeared from its
site. Outright hostility to the Iraqi resistance now reaches far inside the
antiwar movement, undermining the notion that Iraqis have the right to
determine their own future, free of U.S. intervention.

Coming Soon! Police Academy: Baghdad!
Ward Harkavy, Village Voice
For months now, we've been hearing that Iraqi police and other security
forces are being trained to take over control of their chaotic, dangerous
country. But a Voice review of the Bush regime's official weekly "status
reports" indicates that the number of police may have actually fallen by
more than 33 percent in the past year.

THE ISRAELI LEFT IS OPTING FOR SUICIDE
Tanya Reinhart, Electronic Intifada
To judge by the political discourse, being a leftist today means supporting
Ariel Sharon. Even when his government decides yet again to postpone the
evacuation of the illegal outposts to an unknown future date, the pundits
explain that the mere fact that he even raised the matter for discussion in
the government is indicative of the seriousness of his intentions. Sharon
will evacuate Gaza first, they say, and afterwards the outposts, and in the
end maybe even the West Bank. And those who believe the most that Sharon
will dismantle settlements are the Leftist parties.
