"I think people who torture innocent beings should be stopped. If they won't
stop when you ask them nicely, they don't stop when you demonstrate to them
what they're doing is wrong, then they should be stopped using whatever
means are necessary." -- Dr. Jerry Vlasak
"He who dares not offend cannot be honest." -- Thomas Paine

CIA and FBI Plan to Assassinate Hugo Chávez
By Kurt Nimmo
Now we have a bit more evidence the CIA and the FBI connived with
reactionary elements to not only briefly overthrow Chávez, abolish the
constitution and the National Assembly, but later assassinate the Venezuelan
State Prosecutor, Danilo Anderson. He was killed by a car bomb in Caracas on
November 18, 2004, while investigating those who were behind the coup.
Giovani Jose Vasquez De Armas, a member of Colombia's right wing
paramilitary group called the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, claims
he was in charge of logistics for the plot to kill Danilo Anderson. Vasquez
De Armas told the Attorney General's office that those planning the killing,
"all discussed the plan with the help of the FBI and CIA."

Imus and Andy
By Margaret Kimberley
Andy Rooney is a very lucky man. He is paid a very large sum of money to say
absolutely nothing at all. For many years he has appeared on 60 Minutes and
commented on the most inane subjects imaginable. He will begin his weekly
dose of foolishness with a statement such as, "Do you ever think about shoe
laces?" No, Andy, I don't. No one else does and it is truly amazing that CBS
pays you to do so. Don Imus is also very lucky. He masquerades as a
political commentator for MSNBC, a network that clearly isn't concerned
about reporting any real news. For years Imus has made blatantly racist
remarks, some directed at all black people, others directed at any black
person who rises above his or her station and manages to make more money
than he does.

Eat, Sleep, Work, Consume, Die
Tony Long, Wired News
You think technology benefits you because it gives you an easier row to hoe?
Bollocks. The ease it provides is illusory. It has trapped you, made you a
slave to things you don't even need but suddenly can't live without. So you
rot in a cubicle trying to get the money to get the stuff, when you should
be out walking in a meadow or wooing a lover or writing a song.

Their Terrorism, and Ours
Justin Raimondo, Antiwar.com
Abu Ghraib, we were told, was an "aberration." Now they want to make it a
policy. How low can we go? We're supposed to be spreading "democracy" and
"freedom" throughout the Middle East, according to this administration and
its Washington amen corner, but how is human liberty advanced by frying
Iraqi civilians with incendiary phosphorous bombs? If that isn't a war
crime, then nothing is.

Fallujah: The Flame of Atrocity
Chris Floyd, Empire Burlesque
Vivid images show civilians, including women and children, who had been
burned alive in their homes, even in their beds. This use of chemical
weapons - at the order of the Bushist brass - and the killing of civilians
are confirmed by former American soldiers interviewed on camera.

Paris in Flames: a Sign of France's Failure to Deliver Liberty, Equality and
Fraternity to All Its Citizens
Ron Jacobs, CounterPunch
The riots are a recent response to France's attitude towards the immigrants
from the ex-colonies, the attitudes that have only worsened in recent years.
Locked up outside Paris in neglected and isolated ghettos with other
Africans and poor white French working class, most North African migrants
and their children have been marginalized, and stigmatized for their ethnic
origin and lack of economic mobility. The riots are a sign of France's
failed migration policy, and its failure to deliver the great promises of
the French Revolution--liberty, equality-fraternity--to all its citizens.
