The Making of the Arab Menace
By Rayan El-Amine

Anti-Arabism and Islamophobia are so much a part of the political and
cultural discourse on Arabs and Muslims in American society today that most
do not even recognize it as racism. The fear mongering of the Bush
administration and the right wing media pundits who make a living from
demonizing Arabs and Muslims have inundated people with images of the
violent Arabs bent on death and destruction. For media outlets like Fox
Television, it is a way to sell their sensationalist news programs and for
the current administration, a way to sell its wars.

The Corporate Media's threat to Freedom
Mike Whitney, ICH

The media has become an adversary to the people it is supposed to serve. It
now functions exclusively as a weapon in the imperial arsenal; exalting the
state and its wartime agenda, while savaging the institutions of democracy
and personal liberty. Its role as state-propagandist is conspicuous in
everything from its blind devotion to the president to its obfuscation of
facts that discredit the administration.

Police Harassment of New Orleans Relief Workers Escalating
Jessica Azulay, New Standard

A New Federal War on Dissent?
James Bovard, FFF

The confidential FBI intelligence bulletin revealed to the nation's law
officers that protesters might use "media equipment (video cameras,
photographic equipment, audio tape recorders, microphones, and computer and
radio equipment) ... for documenting potential cases of police brutality and
for distribution of information over the internet." Apparently, the FBI sees
videotaping an arrest as an illicit infringement on a police officer's
creativity.

Bush's Rewriting of History
Robert Parry, Consortium News

For decades, the well-connected Bush family has been treated like a kind of
American royalty in which a petulant king or prince can stamp a foot and
insist that whatever the evidence says the truth is otherwise. Their
subjects are expected to bow in acquiescence, while dissenters can expect a
good thrashing.

Worst President Ever? You Might Be Surprised
Douglas Herman, Strike the Root

"The criteria to use is to what degree has a president diminished
sovereignty of the individual states, how aggressive was his administration
in an interventionist international foreign policy and what assault of
destruction did his minions do on honest money and national debt," wrote
Sartre. "However . . . each successive administration build upon the tyranny
of the past . . . Abe Lincoln was the worst. He killed the last hope of a
genuine Republic." Among Sartre's list of others: Hamilton, Wilson, FDR,
LBJ, and Clinton. What appears to make GWB worse, at present, is his
surrounding cast of scoundrels. By appearances, no one among his retinue
seems to have the scruples of a gnat. But were those courtiers of Bill
Clinton (Madeline Albright) much better? Indeed, one respected leftist
writer claims Clinton was far worse than George W. Bush.
