"When [Western] forces are going in to Muslim countries and kill innocent
people, that is not called terrorism. But when people defend their land it
is called terrorism." - Amna Ali

"The contrast cannot be more striking. Four Muslims out of millions commit a
barbaric crime in London. All the Muslims have been put on the defensive,
not just in the UK but the world over. Three soldiers of the British army
are charged with war crimes. The rallying call goes out that we must all
support the army and be sympathetic toward them in this difficult time." -
Hashim Reza

"Take the question of proper response. There are many questions one can ask
about proper response, but whatever answer one gives, it should at least
satisfy the most elementary moral truism that I can think of, namely that if
some act is right for us, is right for others; if it's wrong for others,
it's
wrong for us. People who can't accept that don't even rise to the level
where we can even discuss their attitudes towards right and wrong." - Noam
Chomsky

Arab-Jewish Partnership for Peace
By Sonia Nettnin

For the last, five years Ta'ayush, an Arabic word that means "life in
common," has been building longstanding relationships between Israelis and
Palestinians in the region. Although most Israeli and U.S. mainstream media
do not cover the majority of their activities, the network consists of
thousands of Israeli-Jews and Arab-Israelis who bring food, water, blankets,
and labor resources to Palestinians villages in Israel and the Occupied
Territories. They demonstrate against the wall also.

Shattering Democracy: Sharon's Plan for Palestine
By Remi Kanazi

Sharon is trying to politically deligitimize Hamas by keeping it out of the
elections, while demonizing Abu Mazen for not cracking down on "terror" and
using the excuse of having "no partner for peace" as a ploy to further
expand settlements, the Apartheid Wall, and to impose greater restrictions
on Palestinian life in the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

Lords of War: Arming the World at a Theater Near You
By Mickey Z.

"The U.S. has a long-standing (and accelerating) policy of arming, training,
and aiding some of the world's most repressive regimes," says Frida
Berrigan, Senior Research Associate with the Arms Trade Resource Center of
the World Policy Institute.

The Militarization of New Orleans: Jeremy Scahill Reports from Louisiana
Democracy Now!

It's interesting, we talked earlier this week about the Blackwater
mercenaries and I talked about my hour-long conversation with them when they
had first arrived here, and I reported that they were saying they were on
contract with the Department of Homeland Security. This, of course, was
denied by the federal government. Well, now they have been forced to admit,
the federal government, that Blackwater is on federal contract with FEMA to
protect -- so-called protect, its rebuilding or reconstruction efforts in
Louisiana. This is just one of the firms that is getting now federal money.
I think that these firms view the current situation in Louisiana as the
biggest pot of federal money to put their hands into since the occupations
of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jackbooted Police State Emerging in New Orleans
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire

It's really unfortunate the political left, mired as they are in
government-loving myopia, do not see the military and "security firm"
occupation of New Orleans for what it is-an incubator and testing ground for
a long-sought after police state.

Dominant Media and Damage Control in the Wake of a Not-So Natural Disaster
Paul Street, Dissident Voice

How interesting to watch dominant American corporate media -- the leading
institutional architect and guardian of authoritarian homeland ideological
security -- working to fit the square pegs of "Tropical Storm Katrina" into
the round holes of the nation's atomistic, state-capitalist, and neoliberal
doctrine.

The War for Latinos
Roberto Lovato, The Nation

>From the northernmost corner of Washington State to the southernmost beaches
of south Florida, veteran Latino counterrecruiters and younger activistas
are facing off against thousands of military recruiters in a battle that
will determine whether Latino youth continue echoing the "Yo soy el Army"
and other Pentagon PR slogans or instead adopt the "Yo estoy en contra del
Army" slogan taken up by Sanchez. The counterrecruitment movement,
spearheaded by scores of Latinos in Chicago, El Paso, Tucson and other
cities, suburbs and rural communities, is largely occurring beneath the
radar of the mostly white antiwar movement, despite its potential to alter
the course of Iraq and future US wars.

American Violence in Iraq: Necrophilia or Savagery?
by Kim Petersen and B.J. Sabri, Dissident Voice

On the specific subject of violence and atrocities, from the Korean and
Vietnam Wars until present, no one can deny there has been a remarkable
sliding of the American state into adopting torture comparable to Nazi and
Israeli standards of practice. Namely, torture, rape, racial anger,
religious anger, mass murder, destruction of property, collective
punishment, and disdain for established civilizations have become
institutionalized, codified, taught, and are the preferred method for
putting down liberation movements, which the US and other imperialists
propagandistically call "insurgencies".

Fake Terrorism Is a Coalition's Best Friend
Matt Hutaff, Canon Fodder

The story sounds amazing, almost fantastical. A car driving through the
outskirts of a besieged city opens fire on a police checkpoint, killing one.
In pursuit, the police surround and detain the drivers and find the vehicle
packed with explosives - perhaps part of an insurgent's plan to destroy
lives and cripple property. If that isn't enough, when the suspects are
thrown in prison their allies drive right up to the walls of the jail, break
through them and brave petroleum bombs and burning clothes to rescue their
comrades. 150 other prisoners break free in the ensuing melee. Incredible,
no? Yet this story took place in the southern Iraqi city of Basra recently.
Violence continues to escalate in the breakout's aftermath... just not for
the reasons you think. You see, the drivers of the explosive-laden car were
not members of an insurgency group - they were British Special Forces.

Powell's Widening Credibility Gap
Robert Parry, Consortium News

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell appears to have widened his
credibility gap with his latest attempt to shift the blame for bogus
evidence about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction onto mid-level intelligence
analysts - and away from himself and other senior officials.

Imperial Propagandists
Ghali Hassan, Countercurrents.org

Since the invasion and occupation of Iraq by U.S. forces, there is much talk
about the opinions and views of Western "experts" on Iraq. With the
exception of very few honourable voices, the majority of Western "experts"
are imperial propagandists complicit in U.S. war crimes against the Iraqi
people. The most conspicuous of these instant new breed of "experts" is Juan
Cole of the University of Michigan and the Blogger of Informed Comment.

Al Qaeda and the Iraqi Resistance Movement
Michel Chossudovsky, Global Research

Al Qaeda operatives including 9/11 ringleader Mohamed Atta had been under
the direct surveillance of the US military and intelligence at least one
year prior to 9/11 as part of a top secret operation of the Pentagon's
Special Operations Command (SOCOM). "Able Danger" confirms what is already
known and documented: The official 9/11 narrative as outlined by the 9/11
Commission constitutes a cover-up.

An Elementary Moral Truism
Andy Price, ICH

What is right for us is right for others: if it is right for our Western
governments to reserve the right to attack a sovereign nation for either
perceived crimes committed or possible future crimes, then it is right for
the enemy to do the same. In this case, Iran would be well within their
rights to attack the US, pre-emptively, now.

We have long ago lost our moral compass, so how can we lecture the Islamic
world?
Robert Fisk, The Independent

Put very simply, Mr Shepherd takes a wander through some of the nastiest
bits of the Bible and the Koran - those bits we prefer not to quote or not
to think about - and finds that mass murder and ethnic cleansing get a
pretty good bill of health if we take it all literally.

There's an alternative to marketing delusions to voters
Noam Chomsky, Pasadena Star-News

There's a big fuss among intellectuals about the vote in Ohio, how the
voting machines didn't work, and other things. But the interesting thing is
that nobody cares. Why don't people care if the election is stolen? The
reason is that they don't take the election seriously in the first place.
They reacted about the way that people react to television ads. It's a mode
of delusion.
