An Anarchist FAQ: Freedom Interview
Infoshop.org

What is the FAQ? It is a long, but comprehensive, webpage of "Frequently
Asked Questions" about anarchism on the internet (www.anarchistfaq.org) and
soon to be a book by AK Press. It covers most of the obvious questions you
would expect, plus some more obscure ones. It attempts to present anarchism
as a serious political theory and movement to those interested in finding
out about it as well as being a resource for anarchists.

Israel's Cluster Bomb War: "What We Did Was Insane and Monstrous"
Saree Makdisi, CounterPunch

As Egeland noted, the majority of these bombs were dropped in the last three
days of the war--a time when the U.N. resolution to end the fighting had
been agreed on, when the war was virtually over, when it was clear that
Israel had failed to accomplish its declared objectives in launching this
campaign. Dropped so late in the war, it's hard to imagine what specific
military objective these bombs could possibly have been meant to accomplish.
Instead, they seem to have been dropped as a final, gratuitous act of
violence in a war waged against an entire population. The vast majority of
the 1,200 Lebanese killed by Israeli bombardments were civilians; one in
three was a child.

The Case for Iraqi Genocide
Ghali Hassan, Axis of Logic

For nearly sixteen years, U.S. and British forces have been killing Iraqis
with impunity. The number of Iraqis killed is increasing rapidly and could
easily reach 3 million if the U.S. refuses to end the Occupation. Iraq is an
example of how the West uses the word genocide selectively. Genocide is used
to describe the internal conflict in Sudan (Darfur region), but not the mass
killing of innocent Iraqis where the U.S. and Britain are the main
perpetrators of violence and destruction. What is happening in Iraq today is
genocide, as clearly described by the Genocide Convention.

After Pat's Birthday
Kevin Tillman, Truthdig

Somehow we were sent to invade a nation because it was a direct threat to
the American people, or to the world, or harbored terrorists, or was
involved in the September 11 attacks, or received weapons-grade uranium from
Niger, or had mobile weapons labs, or WMD, or had a need to be liberated, or
we needed to establish a democracy, or stop an insurgency, or stop a civil
war we created that can't be called a civil war even though it is. Something
like that. Somehow our elected leaders were subverting international law and
humanity by setting up secret prisons around the world, secretly kidnapping
people, secretly holding them indefinitely, secretly not charging them with
anything, secretly torturing them. Somehow that overt policy of torture
became the fault of a few "bad apples" in the military.

The Next War
Daniel Ellsberg, Harper's Magazine

A hidden crisis is under way. Many government insiders are aware of serious
plans for war with Iran, but Congress and the public remain largely in the
dark. The current situation is very like that of 1964, the year preceding
our overt, open-ended escalation of the Vietnam War, and 2002, the year
leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. In both cases, if one or more
conscientious insiders had closed the information gap with unauthorized
disclosures to the public, a disastrous war might have been averted
entirely.

Clearing of Maher Arar raises questions about performance of anti-terror
agencies
Waseem Shehzad, Media Monitors

What the O'Connor report reveals in chilling detail is that officials' and
intelligence agencies' statements cannot be taken at face value; that there
are media outlets that thrive on Muslim-bashing, and that Islamophobia has
become acceptable in Canada, as indeed throughout the West. People's civil
liberties have been usurped in the name of 'security'. Yet those posing the
most danger to Canadian security and values are the very people claiming to
protect them.
