Hussein and Ford = Dead Criminals
By Mickey Z.
The nation dutifully mourned the unelected president as the corporate media
dusted off paeans about post-Watergate healing. If citizens of East Timor
had a say, Ford's corpse might not be laying in state. In fact, he just may
be hanging side-by-side with Saddam.

And the Empire Mourned..
By Jason Miller
Another unindicted US war criminal has casually ridden off into a peaceful
crimson sunset. In response, pundits, talking heads, reporters and various
other infotainment personnel are working feverishly to perpetuate America's
collective delusion that we embody integrity, decency, and enlightened
values. Like virtually all of his predecessors and successors in the White
House (regardless of their party affiliation), Gerald Ford was guilty of a
host of egregious offenses against the human race. But the Big Lie must not
die. So in the wake of the United States' recent facilitation of Saddam
Hussein's hanging, we in the self-proclaimed "bastion of human rights" are
in the midst of six days of mourning for a man would have swung from the
gallows long ago had he been judged by the same standards as Saddam.

Soldiers and Imperial Presidents
By Charles Sullivan
There is nothing noble or moral about invading defenseless sovereign nations
and killing hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of innocent human
beings. There is no morally justifiable way of making occupation and the
outright theft of natural capital, such as oil, respectable or gallant.
Genocide and theft are crimes against humanity, regardless how the corporate
advertisers and public relations firms couch them; and the military is
complicit in the commission of those crimes, whether they are ignorant of
their role in them or not.

WILL STINKY CUT THE BIG ONE?
By Sheila Samples
It's almost painful to watch the disintegration of George W. Bush and what's
left of his murderous administration. Those who haven't fled are racing
blindly through the halls of power, lurching into one another in a desperate
attempt to distance themselves from Bush and to escape reaping what they
have sown. Even cutting a bit of slack, it's still inconceivable that any
thinking person could spend more than five minutes in the presence of Bush
without the shock of recognizing what a total idiot this country has as its
president. Other than breaking stuff, killing anything in his path, refusing
to admit mistakes, and making an obscene mess of anything he touches,
apparently the only thing Bush can do with any success is break wind -- pass
gas -- fart.

Why I Object to Testifying Against Lt. Watada
Sarah Olson, Editor & Publisher
It seems clear that the U.S. Army is attempting to redefine the parameters
of acceptable speech and to classify dissent as a punishable offense.
Subpoenaing journalists in this case unequivocally sends the message that
dissent is neither tolerated nor permitted. Utilize your constitutionally
guaranteed speech rights and go to prison.

The Low Profile: CNN and the New York Times Execute a Denial of History
John Collins, Electronic Iraq
At a time when the airwaves are filled with pious reminders of the need to
"remember the victims" of Saddam's brutality, how are we to read the
systematic absence of references to the U.S. role in helping to produce
these and other victims? It seems that while President Bush was keeping a
"low profile" in Waco, the corporate media were safely ensconced in a bunker
of amnesia. Indeed, "low profile" is an apt description for the way that the
corporate media continue to treat the scandalous history of U.S. support for
repressive regimes across the globe.

America's Holy Warriors
Chris Hedges, Truthdig
The drive by the Christian right to take control of military chaplaincies,
which now sees radical Christians holding roughly 50 percent of chaplaincy
appointments in the armed services and service academies, is part of a much
larger effort to politicize the military and law enforcement. This effort
signals the final and perhaps most deadly stage in the long campaign by the
radical Christian right to dismantle America's open society and build a
theocratic state.

The execution of Saddam Hussein
Editorial Board, WSWS
Rather than a tribunal modeled on Nuremberg, where the surviving Nazi
leaders received far more extensive due process rights than were accorded
Hussein, the proceedings in Baghdad resembled a Stalinist or Nazi show
trial, with a puppet judge, a predetermined verdict and a sentence carried
out in the dead of night.

A Lynching
Riverbend, Baghdad Burning
One of the most advanced countries in the world did not help to reconstruct
Iraq, they didn't even help produce a decent constitution. They did,
however, contribute nicely to a kangaroo court and a lynching. A lynching
shall go down in history as America's biggest accomplishment in Iraq. So
who's next? Who hangs for the hundreds of thousands who've died as a direct
result of this war and occupation? Bush? Blair? Maliki? Jaffari? Allawi?
Chalabi?

Bush Silences a Dangerous Witness
Robert Parry, Consortium News
Like a blue-blood version of a Mob family with global reach, the Bushes have
eliminated one more key witness to the important historical events that led
the U.S. military into a bloody stalemate in Iraq and pushed the Middle East
to the brink of calamity.

Selective Justice and the Execution of Saddam Hussein
Gregory Elich, Dissident Voice
That Saddam Hussein was once regarded as a friend of the West is rarely
mentioned these days. As long as he directed internal repression and
external wars at those US policy makers loathed, he could count on support.
It was only when his actions went against US interests that he was suddenly
transformed into a tyrant and criminal. His methods had not changed. Only
the Western perception of him had shifted, because he no longer served the
purposes of global capital.

The western anti war movement - the left boot of imperialism?
Kola Odetola, ICH
The main reason given by western radicals for ignoring the assassination of
the deposed Iraqi president is the crimes against humanity he has allegedly
committed. How many of these 'left' activists then would welcome a Chinese
invasion of the British Isles, the sacking of British cities, the
incarceration and torture of tens of thousands of English youths in
concentration camps scattered along the Yorkshire Dales, the murder of a
million British citizens (the equivalent of the Iraq dead) if the reason
Beijing gave for the invasion was to arrest, try and execute Tony Blair for
the limitless war crimes he has directly and indirectly carried out in Iraq,
Lebanon and Palestine over the last three years - killing in Iraq alone (in
3 years) more than Saddam killed in 35.

Are you a health nut?
Mickey Z, Op Ed News
Human beings can eat junk food till their arteries scream for mercy without
ever running the risk of being called a "disease nut." However, frequent use
of words like "organic," "natural," or "vegetarian" will send up a red flag.
Feel free to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day; no one will call you a
fanatic or zealot. But be wary of how much time you spend at the gym or yoga
class or running track. That kind of behavior is reserved for obsessed
people.
