Join the 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy and the organizers of
Pervers/Cité, this year's alternative to Pride, for a powerful film
about trans women in men's prisons in the U.S. The film we be followed
by discussion with local activists, and information will be provided
about the newly formed Trans & Queer Prisoner Solidarity Project,
including ways you can get involved in prisoner justice activism in
Montreal.

Cruel and Unusual is an important new feature-length documentary
focusing on the experiences of transsexual and transgender women in
men's prisons across the US. This film, created in collaboration the
Sylvia Rivera Law Project in New York City, highlights the stories of
trans women who face severe violence and denial of medical treatment
while incarcerated. The film explores the reasons that trans people
are overrepresented in criminal justice systems, including widespread
employment and education discrimination, loss of family support,
police targetting, and disproportionate homelessness. This moving
documentary is an excellent introduction to these important human
rights issues, which remain marginalized both in gay rights movement
work and criminal justice reform movement work.

Cruel and Unusual has screened internationally and was awarded Best
Documentary Film at the San Francisco Frameline Festival and won the
Audience Award at the New Festival in New York. For more information,
