Crossroads Infoshop meeting
January 4, 2005

Eight of us got together tonight at the MoMo gallery to have a meeting 
about the bookstore/coffeehouse project.

# Name Change #

We discussed the silly names suggested in last week's issue of the Pitch 
and talked about the names that we have discussed so far. Since none of 
the new names really grabbed anybody, we consensed on a slight change in 
our existing name. Our project is now the Crossroads Bookstore and 
Coffeehouse.

The infoshop at the MoMo Gallery will informally be known as "Steal this 
Bookstore."

# First Friday #

First Friday is coming up this week. Mott-ly has invited us to table at 
his gallery. Since we have materials there, it would be good if several 
of us were on hand between 7-9 pm.

# Finances #

Chuck provided a financial update.

Group agreed to spend current money on debts, reserving some for 
upcoming expenses. Around $150 will be saved for postage for fundraising 
mailing and for supplies for Katya's fund raiser. We will pay off 
Slingshot and send AK most of the rest.

# Fundraising #

Maria will draft a fundraising letter. Chuck will put together a 
brochure about the project.

Kat explained her idea for a fundraising project. See her email for 
details. People interested in working on this project should meet this 
Saturday at Noon at the Planet Cafe.

Albert is still interested in organizing shows, although he is tied up 
this month.

There are several spaces available for fundraising events. Planet Cafe 
and Bar Natasha are available for spoken word and music. MoMo gallery is 
available for shows and special events. The theater at the Creative 
Minds space is available if we front some money for heating and a 
donation to the project.

# Organizational #

Sarah will bring the business plan to the next meeting.

Chuck will ask around about 501c3 status for us. Jeremy took care of our 
nonprofit paperwork last summer, but it was felt that 501c3 status will 
help us get funding in the future. It should be possible for us to find 
an existing 501c3 to be an "umbrella" for our nonprofit.

# Slingshot Organizers #

Our stock of Slingshot organizers is going fast. Sarah has the box 
through Friday night, when they will be available at the MoMo Gallery. 
Next week we will be selling them at the Women's Center on the UMKC 
campus (classes start).

# Space Working Group #

We established a new working group which is empowered to start looking 
for a retail location for the bookstore/coffeehouse. The group currently 
consists of Ariel, Katya, Marshall, and Sarah. If you missed the meeting
