Subject: You Could Get Paid to Ride
Just found an interesting article in the March issue of Bicycling Magazine
(pg. 36) -- The Bicycle Commuter Act, know on Capitol Hill as HB 1265 is a
proposal by Rep E. Blumenauer (D-OR) and M. Foley (R-FL) to add bicycle
commuting to the Transportation Fringe Benefit Section of the U.S. Code. The
TFB says people who carpool or use public transit are eligible for a $65. per
month tax benefit for using alternative transportation. The legislation
would extend benefits to bike-riding employees of companies that currently
participate in the TFB plan. Two websites are listed www.senate.gov;
www.house.gov
The bill is in the House Ways and Means committee and could head to the House
floor this year. Maybe we could contact our representatives and help it
along.
Sandy
