hey yall
ok. gotta back up Noel on this. I disagree with what David wrote below
and found it insulting and overall fucked up. In fact, I dont even know
where to start.
But the idea that we, as Bikes not Bombs or whatever the ride is called,
should bring MORE cops to Ward 7/8 across the river because the cops need
to be there to "fight crime" is completely overlooking the fact that cops
are already an occupying army in many communities of color in this city.
They are there ALREADY, and they often shoot and ask questions later.
I dont want more cops in Anacostia or Columbia Heights or anywhere. If
were gonna have cops arresting anyone, I want cops arresting the criminals
who run this city and country.
Ok. I'm not very eloquent today and i'm just gonna stop here. I do want to
say that I think the race/class implications of David's are pretty fucked
up (poor black folks are criminals and need to be arrested/harassed so we
can have our bike ride) and i'm sorta surprised that they even showed up
in this space.
stop war on iraq.
stop the war on immigrants.
stop the assault on people of color in the US (aka Ward 8 DC)
dont trust cops, and definetly dont take'em to ward 8 to "fight crime"

Second suggestion:
To play their game and give them a message that they need to be fighting
crime in Anacostia, instead of harassing CM riders. We can agree a route
with the cops, which would take us southbound on Capitol Street, crossing
the Anacostia River, once in Anacostia, we can turn left on Malcolm X
Ave, then turn left on Pennsylvania avenue to return to Dupont. This
will take the cops to where they need to be. We can call this Tour de
Ghetto or Tour de Hood.
