hey bikey people,
I received a message asking for bicyclists to participate in the world's
first Peace Parade in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace
on September 20th... I'd love to go if we can get a group together. The
organizer says:
We'd love to have messages like:
Biking = Peace
Biking Prevents Wars -- It's the Ultimate Renewable Energy Resource
Biking, No Oil Required, No War
One Vision, One Voice - Peace
Join the World's first Peace Parade in Honor of the United Nations
International Day of Peace, on September 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Washington,
DC. Make History. Dance & Drum. Toot & Hoot. Hip, Hop, & Hum. Walk & Talk.
Sing, Swing & Ring for Peace.
The Peace Parade brings people together to celebrate Unity, create cultures
based on nonviolence, and honor all of humanity. In the Spirit of Mahatma
Gandhi's historic Dandi March of 1930 and Dr. Martin Luther King's civil
rights marches of the 60s, the Peace Parade will draw upon their successful
legacies of nonviolence by making steps to Parade for Peace.
The Peace Parade will include a keynote address by Representative Dennis
Kucinich, recipient of the 2003 Gandhi Peace Award, and will actively
promote the passage of the U.S. Department of Peace, H.R.1763 by hosting the
world's first Department of Peace float. Other parade highlights include:
being the first city to sing the "One Million Voices for Peace" song on the
UN International Day of Peace (see a www.asingledrop.com), drumming, clowns,
poetry, musical performances, dancers, and more.
Other guest speakers include:
Ambassador John McDonald, Originator, UN International Day of Peace,
Washington, DC;
Dr. Rev. Walter Fauntroy, leader of the Anti-Sudan Genocide Campaign,
Washington, DC;
Patricia Clark, Executive Director, Fellowship of Reconciliation, New York,
NY;
Rick Clugston, Board of Directors, Earth Charter, Washington, DC;
Dr. Mark Weisbrot, Co-Director of the Center for Economic & Policy Research,
Washington, DC;
Mike Tidwell, Executive Director of Chesapeake Climate Action Network
(CCAN), Metropolitan Washington, DC;
Mary Gunning, Director of St. Jeromes Head Start, Baltimore, MD; and
Jay Knightwolf, Native American Radio Show Host, WPFW, Washington, DC.
Bishop Medardo Gomez, El Salvador
