Youth Plan April Fools Day Party To Demand Just, Green Energy Future
Over 100 actions planned to confront Dirty Energy, Demand a Just,
Green Energy Future

Who: NOVA's Environmental Campus Council /Energy Action Coalition

What: In the back room at the Busboys and Poets' Arlington location
from 10-11AM we will be showing a comedy/ documentary called
"Everything's Cool" to warm up people's minds. Then we will take the
party outside if it is nice to discuss the movie. At 3Pm the party
will move back in to Busboys and Poets for a showing of a slide show
of local industrial sights, Dominion Power ads seen on the sides of
buses, polluted natural sights, and green businesses. After the slide
show we will have a discussion on the images and their affect on
climate change. The evening will be finished up at 5PM with a talk on
what we as individuals and as a community can do to be part of the
solution to climate change and avoid being part of the problem.

When: 10AM till 11AM Movie, 11-3PM movie review, 3-5PM slide show and
conclusion.

Where: 4251 S Campbell Ave. Arlington VA 22206 (Shirlington)

Visuals for photo op or TV coverage: There will be a very large banner
reading "Demand Clean Energy, Green Jobs Now" to raise the public's
awareness of the event inside, as well as me in a Smoke Stack Hat
handing out event information before the event and during the time
between the movie and the slide show. There is also a possibility that
there will be a Critical Mass bike ride to the event or after the
event to the Mirant power plant to protest the companies fight to keep
clean energy technology out of that plant. We support the enrichment
of the power plant workers work experience by the introduction of
cleaner energy technology, which would make them more competitive in
the job market as clean energy begins to take off.

Why: Leading climate scientists warn that dramatic reductions in
greenhouse gas emissions must begin immediately to avoid catastrophic
climatic shifts, yet most policy proposals consist primarily of goals
that are decades off. On Fossil Fools Day youth will be responding to
the urgency of the problem by getting out on the streets and into
communities to stand in opposition to dirty energy, show support for
climate justice, strong legislation and corporate responsibility.
Actions being planned by youth around the United States and Canada
include Critical Mass bike rides, green job rallies, protests and
civil disobedience at power plants, energy companies, urban sprawl
developers, Bank of America mass account closures, car dealer
"adoptions," no coal photo petitions alternative energy expos, and
more. Fossil Fools Day is being organized by the Energy Action
Coalition and a number of international allies including the
International Rising Tide Network and the Canadian Youth Climate
Coalition.
