Indonesia sympathetic to Obama's reason for postponing trip

Jakarta - Indonesian President Susiolo Bambang Yudhoyono fully
understood why US PresidentBarack Obama yet again postponed a
much-awaited trip to Indonesia, a presidential spokesman said Friday.
Obama called Yudhoyono Friday morning to inform him that he would
call off a trip to Indonesia scheduled for this month because he had
to to deal with the oil-spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, Dino
Patti Djalal said.
Obama had been due to visit Indonesia and Australia in the middle of
this month, after postponing a trip originally scheduled for March to
oversee the passage of his health-care bill.
'The president fully understands that President Obama needs to be in
his country to deal with the worst environment disaster in the
history of the United States,' Djalal told reporters.
'The president said he himself would find it hard to leave the
country where there's a disaster at home, for example a tsunami,' he said.
He said both countries were discussing a replacement date for the
visit, with a November date under consideration. Obama is widely
popular in Indonesia, where he lived as a child from 1967 to 1971
after his mother married an Indonesian.
His planned visit has been touted by the local media as pulang
kampung, or homecoming, and an Indonesian filmmaker has produced a
film about his childhood in Jakarta to be released this month.
