Hi,

I am part of a cob bench building project getting started in downtown
Ithaca. The bench is to be built next to Denise's house and will be
fantastic (That's important). Denise is setting about to involve her
neighbors and I'm very excited to be a part of it. A lot of people will
undoubtably be walking by while we build this and asking questions and
getting pulled into getting their feet muddy! Furthermore, folks will be
irresistably compelled to sit on this bench for years once it is finished
and in it's glory.

I am looking for free-to-cheap sources for sand, clay, straw, gravel,
urbanite (fancy name for broken up chunks of concrete) and roofing
materials, wooden posts, and a few 2 x 6's for the construction of this
marvelous roofed over cob bench.

Free to cheap!

We are quite willing to get in there and dig the clay ourselves, break up
some concrete in your backyard, etc. Furthermore, if anyone has any
practical suggestions about how to dig clay in the most eco-friendly
manner or with regards to remediation of the site where it is dug from,
I'm all ears.

We'll let folks know when the playing-with-cob part gets closer so you'll
have a chance to act silly in public.

              Thanks,
                  -Dirk
