I believe, however, that they are not good in a vegetable garden.  

I think these grubs are the 'cut worms' that encircle young veggie
seedlings and cut them off, to eat them, thus destroying them.  

If I see any in my vegetable garden, I either move them or squish them.
(Depending on how respectful of life I'm feeling that day.)  

Japanese beetles eat my basil... so they're not my favorite creature.
