[FLPERMACULTURE] tulip trees and aphids

Dear Folks,

My partner and I would love to plant a tulip tree (we don't mind
dropping leaves or flowers and are resigned to dropping limbs), but
we have heard horror stories about aphid honeydew. We have three
questions: 1) Are all areas of the US equally susceptible to this
problem? How much of an issue is it in our area? Have any of you in
this area had a problem--or NOT had a problem? 2) How commonly does
it occur--do almost all tulip trees get it? Half? a tenth? 3) Are all
aphid cases really, really bad? Has anyone had a mild, manageable
case? (It would be planted under walkways, balconies, automobiles,
etc., so a bad case would indeed be a problem.)

BTW, Ithaca is considered zone 5 for planting.

Thanks much!
