Join us for presentations of the 0607 PDC class, who have been working
dilligently on designs for CNC's All Peoples Trail. Come early for
brunch - We will serve local and organic eggs, home fries, pancakes, and
a special dish, too! Live music and events for the whole family will follow.

STRAW BALE CONSTRUCTION IN MOIST CLIMATES
with
JAKUB WIHAN
Join freelance architect Jakb Wihan for a discussion on the challenges
surrounding straw bale construction in this climate, and simple
solutions that are low cost and effective. The presentation will also
touch upon the concepts of zero emissions straw bale construction and
low impact foundations for straw bale buildings. Jakub has been
practicing and promoting straw bale building technology in the Czech
Republic and elsewhere since 2002. He is finishing a thesis entitled
"Humidity in straw bale walls and its effect on the decomposition of
straw" for an MSc degree in Architecture, Environmental and Energy
Studies from the Center for Alternative Technology in Wales.

BEYOND AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH

IAN SHAPIRO, President of Taitem Engineering
The movie, "An Inconvenient Truth" with Al Gore woke up many Americans
to Global Warming. Ian Shapiro, (President of Taitem Engineering in
Ithaca, a firm involved in green building design and energy studies),
has trained with Al Gore to give educational talks on this issue and
will focus on what we can do here in Ithaca and Tompkins county to
address global climate change.

BUILD A COMPOSTING TOILET

Learn all about setting up an effective, sanitary, and smell free
composting toilet while building one! We will meet at the CNC farm and
discuss the benefits of humanure composting while constructing
facilities for the farm.

TURN YOUR LAWN INTO A GARDEN
with
STEVE GABRIEL, land use director for Cayuga Nature Center
Learn inexpensive (almost free) and effective ways to convert your lawn
into garden space through sheet mulching - a permaculture technique
using cardboard, compost, and straw. Participants will actively engage
in helping CNC staff mulch our lawn for the coming summer.
