National Permaculture Expert To Speak in Bath
On Sunday, April 29th at 7pm at the PeaceWeaver Retreat Sanctuary on
Crouse Road in Bath, Mark Sheppard will present "Creating Perennial
Food Crops On the Farm or In Your Backyard."

Mr. Shepard converted a 100 acre dairy farm into a permaculture based
farming operation. New Forest Farm in southwestern Wisconsin is one
of the very first and finest examples of Permaculture farming in the
United States. Permaculture is the design of sustainable human
habitats based on natural ecosystems. His farm increases in value
because the amount of work slowly recedes while the output or benefits
continue to increase over the years. The farm is always improving in
fertility while never polluting or eroding. Mark consults on and
implements reforestation, conservation and sustainable agriculture
projects nationwide.

Mr. Shepard gives a snapshot of his talk: "From the Atlantic coast to
the Rocky Mountains certain plant families and patterns appear in
nature. By imitating these natural patterns and by using the same
plant species that Nature does, we can create permanent ecosystems
that produce food, fuels, medicines and beauty while benefiting from
naturally occurring fertility as well as pest and disease control.
Rather than fighting against nature, these systems work WITH nature,
following the natural processes of succession and soil development.
Come learn about four common perennial woody plant families and learn
how to grow over a dozen perennial food crops in one spot with little
or no care!"

To reserve a space, get directions or more information, please call
the PeaceWeavers at 607-776-4060. Suggested donation for the evening
talk is $10. For more information on Mark Shepard, visit
