Hi folks -
Rafter T. Sass and Ethan Roland, of local (and international)
permaculture fame will be hosting a hands-on design workshop
September 1st and 2nd (saturday and sunday)! This two-day workshop
will include creating an integrated design for a useful and beautiful
landscaping project, as well as implementing that design.
What excites me about this workshop is that we will be creating the
design that we will be putting into place. We won't just be learning
the principles of design based on someone else's pre-planned garden
or landscaping project, but we'll be doing it all!
Here is a schedule of events:
Saturday:
9:30 - arrival and set-up
10 - class - intro to permaculture (integrated for all levels)
12:30 - break for lunch
1:30 - Taking a look at the land - permaculture class continued on
the land with hands-on work. Identifying the systems at work on the
land, elements of design already in place, and those that can be put
in place.
3:30 - break
4:00 - Intro to design and design charrette, specifically for working
out the design for landscaping by our house that will incorporate
permaculture elements and will include edible plants, shade, space
for people to walk, etc.
7:00 - Break for Dinner
After dinner stick around for a bonfire and lots of fun!
Day 2:
9ish - Breakfast
10 - Breaking ground. Starting to implement the design on the land.
12:30 - Break for lunch
1:30 - Continuing implementing the design
3:30 - break
4:00 - last class time and a chance to evaluate the weekend and tie
loose ends.
6:00 - Having made new friends and learned many useful things, we
part ways.
The workshop will be held on the land of the Common Fire Housing Co-
op, at 464 W. Kerley Corners Rd. Tivoli. Money will be collected by
passing-the-hat, and we ask you to contribute whatever you can. There
will be tent camping space available. Please bring food (prepared or
in its natural state) to help us out with meals. Also, if you have
gardening tools or large amounts of cardboard, PLEASE bring them, or
we won't have enough.
For more information and to RSVP (which would be appreciated) please
call me at 845-757-2396.
Hope to see you there!
