JAN 15: THE DESIGN PROCESS WITH A FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY
Professional designers struggle to balance decisions that satisfy
their client's functional needs, aesthetic desires, and budgetary
limits. Introducing the concept of "sustainability" into that
decision-making process adds to the complexity. To kick off the
seminar series, architects Megan Nedzinski and Ernie Bayles will lead
a presentation/discussion on the question of how a "green" agenda
changes how we think about the process of designing buildings and
promote the idea that sustainable design is synonymous with good
design.

JAN 22: ENERGY EFFICIENCY FOR EXISTING HOMES
Want to save money and help save the earth at the same time by making
your home as efficient as it can be? This presentation and discussion
led by Steve Paisley will provide answers to questions about
insulation, air-tightness, windows/doors, basements, attics, and more.

JAN 29: DURABILITY AND INDOOR AIR QUALITY: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
How do we make buildings longer-lasting and healthier to live in?
Contractor Jon Harrod will discuss common indoor air quality problems
and building durability failures, as well as ways to deal with them.

FEB 5: STRATEGIES FOR HIGH EFFICIENCY HEATING IN A RENOVATION PROJECT
Paul Myers will present strategies for improving indoor thermal
performance through energy efficient heating systems. He will discuss
use of high efficiency hydronic, forced air and solar hot water for
space heating in residential renovations. Also included will be a
discussion on interior thermal mass to enhance indoor comfort and
heating and cooling efficiency.

FEB 12: ECO-GROOVY KITCHEN AND BATH
Andy Foster, Will Pinkham and Diana Katzmann will discuss renewable
materials for cabinet construction, recycled material countertops,
alternatives to cabinet replacement and finishing options for kitchens
and baths.

No seminar on Feb 19 (snow date)

FEB 26: INTERIOR MATERIALS AND FINISHES
A tour of possibilities for refinishing existing living spaces that
includes natural paints, plasters, oils and waxes for wood, drywall
and masonry surfaces. Presenters Sarah Highland and Brent Katzmann
will cover successes and caveats. Discussion will also touch on ideas
for eco-friendly interior materials including flooring, trim, doors
and other millwork, and a look at posts and beams as "structural
finishes" when remodeling.
