Climate Change:
The New Urgency of Emission Reduction,
and How to Make a Difference
------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------

Presentation:

Scientist Sylvester Johnson, Ph.D. Applied Physics, describes how to
harness the most powerful social and economic engine in history to
transitioning to renewable energy sources. Dr. Johnson also outlines
political and business opportunities driven by the need to implement
governmental and personal strategies for mitigating greenhouse gas
emissions.

Reasons for urgency include acceleration of trends leading to losses
from weather-related disasters ($200 billion in USA in 2005),
acceleration of glacial melting, rising sea level, 25% decrease in
volume of Arctic sea ice since 1979, collapse of Antarctic ice
shelves, increasing oceanic acidity, accelerating rises in
temperature that increase the spread of insect-borne diseases,
increasing evaporation leading to increased water stress, crop
failures, and loss of rain forests that have previously retained
reservoirs of carbon from the atmosphere, and increasing release of
methane from melting permafrost tundra and hydrates.

The presentation is oriented towards the layperson.

Presented in association with the Museum of the Earth at the
Paleontological Research Institution of Cornell University.

This presentation is distinguished by the positive emphasis on
detailed action steps for making a difference, in combination with
compelling graphics and description of the many accelerating
repercussions of climate change and global warming.

Learn more about how to make a difference...
...by increasing energy efficiency
...by making the transition to renewable energy sources
...reducing the use of fossil fuels
...by the capture and storage of smokestack carbon dioxide

Learn the several accelerating repercussions of climate change that
make it urgent to transition, and the reasons that climate change is
almost certainly being caused to a great extent by human activities.
