How, What, and Why of Forest Farming On-Line Class
The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County will be offering
a 10-week on-line course examining the how, what and why of forest
farming.
Forest Farming is the cultivation of high-value specialty crops under
the protection of a forest canopy. The How, What, and Why of Forest
Farming on-line course is for landowners interested in growing
products and making some money off their forest land investment.
The course begins on Feb. 26 and will conclude on May 4. The course
will cover site requirements, growing, harvesting and marketing of
ginseng and woodland medicinals, maple syrup, log-grown mushrooms, and
woodland fruits and nuts.
Also included: a hands-on, forest farming field day on April 14, an
opportunity where we all can come together to put some of what we have
learned to use!
Please register by Feb. 20. Cost: $60 includes course CD and
admission to Forest Farming Field Day. Call (607) 334-5841 for a
complete syllabus and to register.
