Dear All,
Citizens in the Town of Hector are organizing to ban the spreading of
sewage sludge on land in the town. CARR (Citizens for Agricultural and
Rural Responsibility) <carrcny.org> is a non-partisan group of Hector
residents concerned about the health of our families, our community, and the
rural land we love.
The next meeting of CARR will take place at the Mecklenburg Fire House
(county road 6 aka McIntyre) on Thursday, May 22 at 7:30 PM and will
feature a panel of of experts from soil scientists, farmers and democracy
activists (including Valerie Gardiner, esq from Democracy New York, Dr.
Anthony Hay, Cornell Institute for Comparative and Environmental
Toxicology, Dr. Murray McBride, Cornell Waste Management Institute, Joe
Dell, local farmer) who will engage in discussion with the community.
A similar meeting was held earlier this week in west Hector, and I recorded
it. It will be broadcast on WEOS 89.7fm and Ithaca Community Radio 88.1
fm this coming Sunday at 9 pm
I know that some list members live in the Town of Hector, but even if you
don't, the meeting is worth attending as this problem is by no means
confined to the Town of Hector - our whole area is being targeted.
Lyn
