A Retreat of Story Work and Play
To Transform Our Lives and Our Communities
with Keynote Julie Portman, Obie Award winning performer
September 22-24, 2006
Camp Eder - Fairfield, PA
8 miles west of Gettysburg, PA
75 miles northwest of Washington, DC
Strengthen your roots. Stretch your branches.
Learn tools for community transformation.
Connect to others in creative work and play.
*Moving Stories, Healing Stories* is an opportunity to explore spiritual
enrichment and community renewal processes through story-work and -play
in exciting forms of interactive drama, movement and other creative
arts. Activities include:
* working with specific storytelling tools, exploring personal stories
* sacred times for telling our stories
* forums for sharing our skills, ideas, media and findings
* "getting into our bodies" with quietness and play
* personal and group devotional time
* sharing meals and supportive fellowship
* unstructured "free" time!
*Why Stories?* During our year facilitating, performing and worshiping
in communities across the U.S., we saw how universal stories and
storytelling could be. When we introduced storytelling pieces in
workshops or worship services, we consistently heard murmurs of response
from people hearing members of their community tell their own stories.
The meaningfulness was unmistakable. And so was the enthusiasm. We
wanted explore the story further. What can we learn from our own
stories? What can we gain from witnessing others stories? How can we
learn and share this ancient ritual in our own community? Join us as we
answer these questions together.
Keynote leader Julie Portman will bring her *Life Stories Workshop* to
the retreat, a unique method of unlocking the potential for all of us to
discern and tell our empowering stories -- and to witness the power-full
stories around us. Julie is an Obie Award winning theater director and
performer and a founder of Ki Theater in Washington, Virginia.
InterPlay instructor Judith Reichsman will facilitate a workshop for
learning improvisational and playful tools to further explore the
stories we have already generated. Judith, from Marlboro, Vermont,
brings over fifteen years of Interplay experience and leadership to the
retreat.
