Liz Lerman is a fantastic force for community building, translating personal
stories into dance, a worth recipient of a MacArthur genius award. I have
admired her work for years, AND even performed once with the company! Alas,
I can't attend this event.

HOWEVER, please MARK YOUR CALENDARS for two performances by DUMBARTON
PLAYBACK THEATRE at Riderwood Village in Silver Spring, MD.

1) SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18, "There's No Place Like Home", to benefit Habitat
for Humanity of Montgomery County, MD.

2) SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16, to benefit Accion, which does microlending all
over the world, helping enterprising poor people rise from poverty
(www.accion.org). December performance is part of the second GLOBAL PLAYBACK
DAY, this year celebrating UN Human Rights Day.

Both performances start at 7PM SHARP, in the Interfaith Chapel at Riderwood.
Suggested donation is $5, or whaterver folks are able to give.

DIRECTIONS: Travel on Route 29, Colesville Road. About four miles outside
Beltway 495, look for juncture of Randolph/Cherry Hill roads. Turn onto
Cherry Hill Road. At 3rd traffic light, turn left onto Clover Patch drive,
and continue 3 short blocks straight into Riderwood gate. Tell guard you are
attending a performance in the Chapel, and ask for directions. Aim to arrive
by 6:30 for parking. Please do let me know if you are coming, and/or if you
need directions from another location. Hope to see you there.

Hi friends,
I wanted to share this, a compelling and exciting model for doing
community organizing and arts-based activism. Unfortunately, not every
community has a Liz Lerman or a Joe's Movement Emporium. But they have
YOU!
And now that this list is open, i am curious to hear what others are
doing out there! Anybody care to share? Big or small, what's going on
out there?
    peace now,
     chris

and by the way, anybody else interested in going to this November 19th
fest?

Dear Community,

We are beginning to "strategize" and "energize" for the Arts for Change
Festival on November 19 at Joe's Movement Emporium. The festival is a
day-long workshop series and performance focusing on arts and activism.
To find out how you can be (more) involved and publicize the event, we
invite you to the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange in Takoma Park @7:30 pm on
Thursday. We will meet, have some refreshments and discuss the festival
for a 1/2 hour and then spill into the Contact Jam at 8. I invite all
movers and musicians to improvise during the jam.

Details:
What: Thursday Night Contact Jam
Why: To move. To play. To strategize/energize for the festival.
When: November 2, 2006 from 7:30 to 10pm
Where: Liz Lerman Dance Exchange
           7117 Maple Ave.
          Takoma Park, MD- Takoma Metro
Cost: $5 (to jam)

Please fwd to others you may think might be interested!

Thank you and peace,
Ilana Silverstein
Event Coordinator, Jam Facilitator
