Notes From July 10 General Meeting

Next General Meeting: Wednesday, July 17, 7:30, St.
Stephens Church.  The bulk of the meeting will be
spent resolving the question of what date we are
focusing on for the mobilization.

Working Group Meetings:
--General Outreach: Monday, July 15, 7:30 pm at AFSC
office, 2211 14th Street NW.
--Labor Outreach: Monday, July 15, 6:30 pm at Ben's
Chili Bowl, 13th and U Streets, NW.
--Web: to be announced.

1. Working Group Report Backs

A) General Outreach Group met and brought a proposal
to pursue a roundtable discussion event with the
Anti-Capitalist Convergence and others to discuss
plans for Tuesday, October 1, and the "People's
Strike."

B) Training Group meet with trainers to discuss
training.

C) "5th Demand" Group met and brought the proposal for
the anti-war demand to be consensed upon or not.

D) "Web" group discussed a new back-end to the website
to allow multiple administrators.

2. Proposals - we decided to make some decisions.

A) Labor Outreach - Jeff proposed from the Labor
Outreach group that MGJ pursue joining the DC chapter
of Jobs with Justice.  This would be a $50
contribution and ongoing committment to work with the
coalition. They meet monthly, and MGJ would - at the
least - turn people out to five events annually.
APPROVED.
 
B) "5th Demand" - Mike proposed the Fifth Demand,
making opposition to the "war on terrorism" and the
USA Patriot Act part of the MGJ platform.
BLOCKED by Nadine, Tom, David, Mark and Rick.
Straw Poll showed strong support for looking at
putting a banner on the website in oppostition to
Patriot Act.

C) Date? - Adam proposed MGJ call for the main action
to be Tuesday, Oct 1, with the aim of building the
"People's Strike" events.  Alix proposed calling for
actions on both Tuesday the 1st, and Saturday Sept.
28.  Nadine proposed calling for action on Tuesday,
and holding open the possibility of calling for action
Saturday.  Tom proposed not calling for specific date,
but publicizing a week-long calendar of actions and
events.
UNRESOLVED - agreed to make this question the
substance of next week's meeting.

D) St. Stephens - someone proposed to give St.
Stephens $100 for letting us meet there every week.
APPROVED.

E) Roundtable - Adam proposed that MGJ pursue a
roundtable discussion event with the Anti-Capitalist
Convergence and others to discuss plans for Tuesday,
October 1, the "People's Strike," and related issues.
APPROVED.

3. Set working group meetings and next meeting, to be
facilitated by Tom and someone else(?) (See list
above.)
