[mgj-announce] notes from MGJ 9/4 meeting

Approximately 40-50 people were in attendance at
Wednesday's meeting. The meeting began with a
presentation. (Debbie?) spoke about the negative
social and environmental impacts of IMF decision
making concerning Ecuador. Ecuador is being pressured
to use more of the earnings from its crude oil
pipeline project for debt servicing. In so doing,
the allocation of earnings (10%) Ecuador wanted to
spend- on health, education and other social services-
would be eliminated.
Next, Scenario gave an update- There will be a week
of actions, including Teach-ins, trainings, workshops,
rallies, and other events, starting the 24th of Sept.
Keep an eye on the MGJ calendar to find out more.
Events specific to MGJ are:
1)a rally with Local 25 at the Ronald Reagan
Internationsl Trade Center 9/24, for which MGJ is
joining efforts by Jobs with Justice to turn out a
crowd.
2)9/26 Eco-Block/Trojan horse action- more details as
they emerge
3)9/28 Permitted MGJ march, starting at the Ellipse.
Direct actions to follow, within area set up by police
at WB.
4)9/29 Social Forum meetings
This is just a brief overview of events- other's such
as teach in, the ACC people's strike 9/27, etc, will
be posted on the MGJ calendar at www.globalizethis.org
Next agenda item: Spokes reportback
Spokes came to consensus about MGJ march and
quarantine actions. Spokes approved to move endorsing
the people's assembly and social forum events, as wll
as the action with JwJ to Sunday's 9/9 meeting.
Next agenda item was a brainstorm on needs:
-Food: need donations, ways to cook, transport,
refrigerate
-Spaces needed: convergence center, legal space,
clinic space for medics, childcare space, space for
IMC. it was mentioned that MGJ needs to coordinate
with ACC for finding and meeting space needs.
-Help is needed with reaching out to area campuses.
-Fundraising. Need more people who can throw parties
over the next few weekends.
-Access for people with physical handicaps and who
need langage interpretation, including sign language
-Bikes
-Arts
-Training
Next agenda item was announcements:
-a new working training-convergence-welcome working
group has formed.
-anyone interested in throwing a fundraising party
should do it soon. There will be a party Sept 14-
address?
Next agenda item: working group breakouts.

working group meetings can be posted by going to

information, writings, etc on the website. More
voices from the global South about IMF/WB impacts are
especially wanted.
-Scenario working group- Scenario's next meeting is
Thurs 9/5) at 1621 Conn ave. 5th floor, 7:30
-Fundraising is looking for people to raise $10 each
from 10 friends. Fundraising is also seeking
organizations willing to give MGJ money in the form of
challenge grants.
-Education will meet at 2 pm 9/7 location?
-Outreach reported back on a very successful, widely
covered press conference this week. More of the same
to come in coming weeks; efforts will continue to get
the word out. Area students are being contacted.
-Logistics will be looking into food, spaces, medical
supplies, housing, and access
