MGJ GENERAL MEETING NOTES
March 31, 2004

Thanks to everyone who made it to this week's lecture and organizational 
meeting.  If you missed this week, you can catch us next week:

Wed. 4/7: The World Trade Organization (WTO)
[NOTE Special location: La Casa, 3166 Mt. Pleasant NW, Wash., D.C.,

* 6 pm: The WTO from its birth in 1995, to the mass movement of labor, 
environmental and human rights advocates fighting it (Seattle, DC, 
Cancun...) Presenter: United for a Fair Economy

Mike will be faciliatating the next meeting.

After (or instead of) painting your Easter eggs, come to the "doghouse" in 
Takoma Park to paint puppets, banners, flags, etc. for the March for 
Women's Lives on Sun. 4/25

by METRO: 1 mile from Takoma Metro, walk down Carroll Ave towards the 
7-11, keep going, @ the TPSS Coop, go Right on Sycamore, Left on Beech, 
garage behind 405 Beech Ave.

DRIVING: Beech is a one block long street between Sycamore and Woodland 
Aves, both of which run between Route 410/East West Highway and Elm Ave.  
Sycamore is next to TPSS Coop on 410! From WDC, take 13th to Piney Branch, 
Right on 410/East West Highway/Philadelphia @ Firehouse go Left, get in 
Right Lane, go Right onto Sycamore, Left on Beech, garage behind 405 Beech

MOBILIZATION 4/21-4/25

IMF & WB will be meeting in DC and IMF will be turning 60
street demonstrations, teach-ins, flyers
women's rights & health care: MGJ's focus this year

4/21 Unhappy 60th B-day party for IMF
 Noon: Jubilee will be delivering birthday cards it has collected to the 
IMF

4/22 Earth Day -- Global Justice Ecology Project

4/23 G-8 Meeting

4/24 - Major Mobilization
 12:00 meet outside McPherson Square Metro
 short rally - Argentinian form of protest - banging pots, or other 
festive noise: whistles, drums...
 then will march past evil corporations: Bechtel, Haliburton
 the route is being negotiated with police
 pass World Bank? On Thursday, a fence will go up around it
 conclusion: "Festival of Resistance" speakers, guerilla poetry, games:
   games will be set up at booths: dunk the IMF boss, pin the structural 
adjustment on the country
   *** Other booths are welcome, especially if you / your group / 
organization can set it up and sponsor it. *** 
   MGJ will sponsor 1, maybe 2 booths
   *NEED* more organizations to sponsor booths
 bands, DJ's: if anyone knows a band / DJ who would like to play...
   good because they may bring their own following
   need to mix music & speakers to keep in line w/ permit

4/25 March for Women's Lives - MGJ has endorsed & is a contingent (women's 
rights & health are MGJ's focus this year)
 paper machee puppets, flags, banners
 * will be made Easter Sunday (see above) *
 *** sponsors are needed to refurbish puppets (organization, affinity 
group, or just group of friends) ***

A woman from Pacifica Radio was at the meeting and she offered to record a 
statement from MGJ.  She also offered helpful suggestions about involving 
the local community (MGJ is involved w/ DC Jobs for Justice and the 
Safeway & Giant workers) like having the community help make banners; to 
get out on Sunday in time for the morning news shows; and to have the 
events (bands, etc.) going on during the press conference (better for the 
air).
