The Colony of Washington DC

We have no voting representation in Congress...Congress has to approve
our City budget and controls what is funded and what's not...

What does Statehood have to do with the issues that face our City-
gentrification, evictions, cuts in social services, privatization and
tax breaks and land giveaways for the rich!

Come join the DC Statehood Green Party as we debate the issue of
Statehood and discuss what the sellout of our City!
 
What: D.C. Statehood Conference 
Where: Saturday, April 6 at UDC Van Ness Campus
When: 9:30 am-5pm

9:30 - 10:30am  Panel:  Statehood and Human Rights

10:30 - 12:00 Debate:  Democracy for DC - Statehood, Voting Rights or
Retrocession?  
Moderator - Phil Mendelson, City Council, At Large (expected);
Debaters: Sam Smith, D.C. Statehood Green Party, Editor, The 
Progressive Review; Anise Jenkings, Stand Up! for Democracy in D.C.
Coalition; Col. Dominique Archibald, D.C. Vote; Betty Anne Kane,
Committee for a Capitol City; Walter Smith, D.C. Appleseed Foundation
(invited); and Jamin Raskin, Professor of Constitutional Law at
American University (invited).  Co-Sponsored by D.C. Statehood Green
Party, D.C. Vote and Stand Up! for Democracy 

12:00 - 1:00 Lunch, Board of Elections Voting Demonstration and
Cultural Event 

1:00 - 1:20 Candidate Presentations (those DCSGP members that are
running for office)

1:30 - 2:30 Workshops on Changing DC Priorities to Meet Basic Human
Needs.  Workshops include topics on Education,Income Security, Housng, 
Criminal Justice and Healthcare
