Overarching Principles That Guide Our Work
(adopted at the Latin America Solidarity Conference II in March 2001 in
Chicago):
We operate and structure our work from a solidarity model: we operate on
the principle of self-determination; it is not up to us to determine what
our partners in the Global South should or should not do. Nor is it up to
us to determine the strategies and methodologies they use. We determine
our strategies based on the needs of our partners in Latin America and the
Caribbean.
As a movement we must have ongoing critiques of our internal power
dynamics, especially regarding the issues of race, class and gender. In
our research and analysis, and in presentation of that research and
analysis, we will take into account the affects on men, women, and society
distinctly, recognizing that most research and analysis of "society"
excludes the experience of women.
We must always attempt to put a "human face" on our work that the
policies we are working for or against affect real people to whom we have
a connection.
We recognize how many issues are inter-connected and that there is
potential to make links between Latin America solidarity issues and the
work of local community groups.

Otro Mundo Es Posible

Mobilization Against the Military and Economic U.S. Intervention in Latin
America and the Caribbean
Otro Mundo Es Posible - Another World Is Possible!
Working as part of the Latin America Solidarity Coalition (LASC), SOA
Watch is calling for a massive mobilization to Washington, DC as part of
an international Day of Action in April 2003 to demand:
· No to the Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement (FTAA) and all other
exploitative schemes
· No to Plan Colombia/ Andean Initiative
· Close the School of the Americas/WHISC and end US military aid and training
· Close US military bases in Vieques and throughout Latin America
· Respect indigenous treaty, land, and cultural rights
· End the Drug War's assault on people of color and the poor throughout
the Americas.
· No One Is Illegal Stop the Attacks against Immigrants
The U.S. government is continuing its legacy of intervention in Latin
America and the Caribbean by imposing pro-corporate, anti-people economic
policies, by providing military aid and training to repressive
governments, and attempting to crush any movements that support
alternative models. We must stop these policies and stand in solidarity
with our sisters and brothers throughout the Americas.
April 10-15, 2003 Converge on Washington, DC
for a March and Rally, Lobbying, Trainings, Skill Shares, the Latin
America Solidarity Conference III and more...
The Latin America Solidarity Coalition (LASC) is a coalition of national
and local US grassroots groups working in solidarity with civil society,
popular movements, and progressive forces throughout Latin America and the
Caribbean to oppose US military and economic intervention and to support
the right to self-determination and autonomy for all peoples. For more
