Hey everyone,

here's a great opportunity for a follow up event 2 weeks after the big
weekend. Justin Ruben, an american global justice activist has been working
in Ecuador for several months with the indigenous and campesino groups who
are moiblizing against the FTAA summit at the end of February.

He will be in DC Oct 10-15th along with a multi-media presentation about the
organizing happening in Ecuador. Anyone interested in liasoning with him
about hosting such an event? Please contact him directly.

I will be passing through DC in early October, before
I return to Ecuador. Folks in the mobilization down
here have asked me to do anything I can to spread the
word within the US about what is happening down here,
and to build as many connections as possible before
the FTAA summit on October 31st/November 1st.

I am putting together a slide show/multi-media
extravaganza with lots of pictures from the
mobilizations and grassroots in Ecuador.

I would love to present this in DC, as a way of
filling people in on what`s happening, as well as
building the ties between the Quito mobilization and
the DC protests. I would also like o sell
t-shirts/posters/CD`s and pass the hat to raise money
that is desperately needed to get campesinos to Quito
and to pay for fliers and other basic materials.

Tentatively, I am thinking that I would talk about 1)
the amazing history of mobilization resistance to
neoliberalism in Ecuador, 2) the wretched and
deteriorating economic situation here (thanks to 20
years of structural adjustment), 3) the Quito summit
and the mobilization
and 4) my take on this as a critical moment the effort
to build a continental movement against
neoliberalism/for justice, and some of the very
interesting and significant N-S solidarity stuff that
is happening.

I promise it will be interesting.

Possible dates would be October 10 (thursday), 14
(Monday), or 15 (Tuesday)

The question is whether MGJ or any associated groups
would be willing to organize and publicize this. It
seems like the mobilization itself will offer a pretty
much unparalleled opportunity to get the word out to
lots and lots of people.

Maybe you all can discuss this and let me know?

thanks

Justin Ruben
