THE SOUTH ASIAN FILM SERIES

***INAUGURAL SCREENING***

What: A screening and discussion on two films addressing the themes 
of globalization and economic justice.

DROWNED OUT (75 min; Dir: Franny Armstrong)
A story of a famiily that chose to stay at home and face submergence 
rather than make way for a mega-dam on the Narmada river.

INDIA AND FREE TRADE (33min; Dir: Pavithra Narayanan)
Examines the effects of a global free market economy by highlighting 
the caustic actions of transnational companies in the Bhopal-Union Carbide disaster.

A Discussion will follow the screening with Ward Morehouse, author 
of "The Bhopal Tragedy," and activists working on the Narmada campaign.

who work on a broad spectrum of progressive issues concerning the 
global South Asian community--peace and communal harmony, social 
and economic justice, xenophobia, gender, sexuality, and race issues.
