[mgj-discuss] Fwd: 110 hs students protest war

Mat is being modest (see below), although I would
agree it was 100-120 Wilson HS and Deal JHS students
protesting the war on Iraq today at the Tenleytown
metro. The students did a great job, out there all day
in the freezing cold, with brilliant signs, drums,
banners, plenty of energy and a lot of media.  "Books
not bombs," "no blood for oil" and more.  Despite
threats and the risk of arrest, their unity and
organization prevented any problems from arising.  I'm
a teacher there and the students' action launched many
a good discussion about why people should come protest
this weekend. Some students are being threatened with
suspension or detention, so today at the faculty
meeting I started a petition for teachers opposed to
any disciplinary action being taken against them.
We'll see how it goes!
