Haiti: Killing the Dream
"In February 1991, filmmakers Hart and Dana Perry journeyed to Haiti to document events surrounding the inauguration of that troubled island's first freely-elected president, Jean Bertrand Aristide. They were struck by the spirit and poverty of the world's first Black Republic, which had once been the richest country in the hemisphere. Seven months later, President Aristide was overthrown in a violent coup
Perry returned to investigate [and document] the terror of this tragic event." - from the director's website, http://www.perryfilms.com/projects/haiti.html
There will also be a discussion with the Director of TransAfrica, Bill Fletcher, about US involvement in Haiti and what can be done to restore true democracy to the island nation. Other Haitians and Haitian activists have been invited to join the discussion and answer people's questions.
