WHAT:  A public forum on Why We Should Fight for Gay Marriage
 
WHEN:  Thursday, March 18th, 7pm
 
WHERE:  La Casa, 3166 Mt. Pleasant St., NW
             Near Columbia Heights Metro (Green Line)
 
WHY:  The fight for gay marriage has erupted across the US.  From Massachusetts to San Francisco and a half dozen towns and cities in between, there is a real opportunity to erase second class status for same sex couples.  But there is a real danger, as well.  Bush and the far right have made it clear that they will stop at nothing not only to prevent gay marriages, but want to turn back the clock and push gays back into the closet.  Since the struggle touched off last fall, there has been a sharp debate in the movement for gay marriage--should we focus on stopping the right wing, their amendments to ban gay marriage and their attacks?  Or should we push forward and fight for gay marriage now?  Nowhere is that debate more urgent than right here in DC.  With 8 councilmembers and the mayor having voiced support for same sex marriage, we could clearly win gay marriage now.  But we could also provoke a serious backlash from Congress for doing so.  The questions are serious, and s

 potential to win, so come to this forum to talk through what w can do right now in the fight for same sex marriage!
