why can't we call this meeting what it is...ie, WHy can't we call this the
(Metro DC Progressive )CLEARINGHOUSE ???

just for education purposes, and so that others will have a clear picture of
what this group is!
(In progressive communities globally, a spokescouncil implies EMPOWERED
representatives from various groups coming together to MAKE BINDING
DECISIONS. A CLearinghouse, on the other hand, is an "informational sharing
meeting whereby individuals and organizations (non-profits, community
> groups, affinity groups, activist orgs, etc.) get together " and share
information that may lead to collaboration and or mutual support.

This is an important distinction. BOTH KINDS OF meetings are VALUABLE and
necessary. THis is not judgemental; it accurately reflects the purposes of
the 2 different kinds of gatherings; spokescouncils and clearinghouses. Just
because we HAVE been doing something one way, does not mean it should stay
that way if it is not correct or hurts the movement ( We are all about a
better world, right? We pride ourselves on being able to change.) We are
fomenting confusion by continuing to call our valuable Clearinghouse a
Spokescouncil.

Please put this on the Agenda of the next meeting....I thought this was
figured out during the January 20th mobilization.... so let's not go
backwards!

Thanks for everyones good work,
Onward
