please forward widely:
Notice of J20 Counter Inaugural
ACTION SPOKES COUNCIL!!!!
First Meeting:
Monday January 17th
8pm @Convergence Center
39 NY Ave NE
(Red line Metro, NY AVE stop)
facilitators: Adam E& Liz B.
(likely meetings on TUES, WED nites as well...)
PURPOSE:
to provide a forum for Affinity groups (see below) who are organizing for J20 and related counter-inaugural actions to make coordinated and collective decisions to facilitate effective action(s).
NOTE:This is in addition to the Clearinghouse , which has provided a forum for announcements and information sharing on actions and events over the past few months but which did not have the intention or buy-in to make decisions.Clearinghouse will continue to meet this week and beyond.
PROCESS:
The spokescouncil will operate by a consensus process that will be agreed to at the first meeting. Usually, this consists of a general flow:
*broad discussion
*proposals brought forward
*dealing with proposals one at a time
*refining proposals
*clarifying questions
*restating proposals
*checking for consensus:
1. call for reservations/concerns
2. call for stand asides
3. check for blocks (blocks can only be made based on a violation of the groups stated goals, objectives or operating principles, not on a personal/moral basis.)
WHO:
The meetings are generally open, but only empowered representatives ( spokes) from affinity groups or action teams will be able to participate in the check for consensus. If there is a vote, again, only the spokes are counted. Only one spokes per group is usually empowered to represent any one group. SPokes should come prepared with ideas, and options to possible scenarios, and possibly other AG members to facilitate decisionmaking!
