Hey,
Here are two links to good articles (the BBC one is better) about
protests (that have so far killed four police officers.) in Indonesia
against the largest mininig oporation in the province of Papua. The
protesters of demanding the closure of the mine, which is run by a US
mining giant Freeport-McMoran Cooper & Gold Inc. The mine is the
largest tax payer in Indonesia so you can be sure that the Government
does not want it to close. I tried to find out if the company has any
deals with the IFC/MIGA but the IFC web page is not working
(hmmmmm....) I have a feeling a company like Freeport-McMoran Cooper &
Gold Inc does have some connecting to the IFC. Anyone know more?
