Title: Introduction to Theater for Education
Activists often do theater that is heavy on content but short on appealing
form. The result is a poster, mask and puppet display with lots of words,
rather than theater. Capturing people's interest with some cool theater to
convey socially relevant messages is an art that often works better than
speeches in educating and building alliances. It need not be expensive or
very time consuming and does not require a huge performance space. Come,
learn from some highly-skilled and experienced practitioners of educational
theater how to put together basic activist plays with the help of
time-tested techniques and fun exercises for voice, movement, presentation
and script development. It will be an invigorating and memorable SALSA
evening.
Led by: Shirin, Sameer and Basav from Justice in South Asia. They have been
involved with activist theater for years and have given workshops in
several places around the world.
Note: Please wear comfortable clothes that will give you the freedom of
physical movement needed for the exercises.
