Student Global AIDS Campaign & DC Fights Back...

Make Life-Saving Medications Available and Affordable in Thailand Now !

***ABBOTT ACTION ALERT FOR WASHINGTON, D.C.***
** FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2007**
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Where: The Abbott office in DC – 14th and New York NW

The world has recently witnessed what is perhaps the most blatantly
harmful measure Abbott Laboratories has taken yet. The government of
Thailand, in response to the prohibitively high price of Kaletra in
their country, issued a compulsory license to produce generic versions
of Abbott's life-saving AIDS drug Kaletra/Aluvia. This action was
entirely legal within World Trade Organization rules and intellectual
property rights law. In retaliation, Abbott decided to pull registration
for Kaletra
and six other drugs, refusing to register its drugs in Thailand in the
future. In a move that puts profiteering over patients, Abbott is
taking the health of people in Thailand hostage.

This action by Abbott is unprecedented. A comprehensive and intensive
global campaign has arisen to force the reversal of Abbott's decisions
by registering our disgust and condemnation for their disregard for
health as a human right and international law.
