This Sunday!
Workshop: Disaster Preparedness: Building a Radical Response to Disasters
Sunday, September 2nd
2:00 - 6:00pm
At the Brian MacKenzie Infoshop
1426 9th St. NW, DC
Because disasters happen and we know we can’t rely on the government to
respond. The first discussion will be sharing ideas and developing
possibilities. We will start with a thorough discussion of "community."
What is it? What do you think of when you hear the word? What
communities are we talking about? How will we interact with our
neighbors and how will we interact with our friends and allies who are
more spread out? We will also talk about practical steps on a household
and community-wide level to take care of each other, both before and
after a disaster happens.
The second day will be about developing our community. What do we need
to do to stay prepared? Is a network the next step? If so, then what
would its role be? What can we do, and what do we need to be prepared to do?
About the facilitator:

*The Infoshop is both a radical book and record shop, as well as a
resource center located at 1426 9th St. NW in Washington DC.*
The shop has been open for just about five years. Soon the lease on the
BMI's space will be up and the shop is looking to move to a new, bigger
and more functional space. The funds raised from this show will go
towards helping the Infoshop to move to a new space.
To host a benefit event to help the Infoshop in this moving effort or to
get involved in volunteering and organizing with the BMI call

The BMI is organized around anarchist principles and are volunteer and
cooperatively run. In addition to our modest selection of radical books,
and politically charged independent punk, hip-hop, folk, spoken word and
audio cd's & records we maintain a small video lending library of
documentary and political films; provide free computer and internet
access; make available meeting and event space for radical groups and
projects; sponsor a variety of political and cultural events such as
hosting speakers and authors, film-screenings, artists and various
performers; as well as provide a gathering space for radical activist to
meet and connect with other activists, independent thinkers, and
organizing projects. We work to promote and support the fight for global
justice and total liberation.
