THEATER FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION TRAINING
February 22, 6:45-8:45 PM

SALSA at IPS, 1112 16TH St NW, Suite 600, Washington DC, 20036

Activists often do theater that is heavy on content but short on
appealing form. The result is a poster, mask and puppet display with
lots of words, rather than theater. Capturing people's interest with
some cool theater to convey socially relevant messages is an art that
often works better than speeches in educating and building alliances. It
need not be expensive or very time consuming. It does not require a huge
performance space and with training and experience, activists can learn
how to turn any space – a classroom, railway station, the street or a
corridor – into an effective performance area. Come, learn from a highly
skilled and experienced practitioner of educational theater how to put
together basic activist plays with the help of time-tested techniques
and fun exercises for voice, movement, presentation and script
development. It will be an invigorating and memorable SALSA evening.
Note: Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that will give you the
freedom of physical movement needed for the exercises.
