Ms. Stanley and Mr. Khassen,

Thanks for this information. I want to bring to your attention the fact
that the grassy hill in the southwest corner of the park (near the corner of
19th & Kalorama) has been turned into a giant bank of mud with tire tracks
running through it. I may be wrong, but I'm assuming that this is the result of
the contractors' vehicles running up that embankment to access the park.

If so, please ensure that the contractor completely reseeds that area.
(Also, I'm no gardening expert, but I suspect that the best planting time is in
the early spring, so please withhold some portion of the final payment until
you confirm that the re-seeding has been properly done.) And if the fault
lies elsewhere, please see that the responsible party fixes the problem.

Thanks,

Alan Roth
Chairperson, ANC 1C

Mr. Becker,

Attached are the responses to your concerns related to DPR's project at
Kalorama Park:

1. I was wondering if you could keep this list informed as to the task
completion schedule like when do you expect that the two children's parks
will open and when the concrete work is expected to be completed. And even if
those date's changes because of events outside you control - it would help a
lot if you could post those changes here, in a timely fashion.

The playground and tot lot has been completed, however, there are a few
punch list items still outstanding. We anticipate the punch list items being
completed by the end of December/first of January. Re-paving of existing
concrete walkways in the plaza adjacent to the play area and the driveway entrance
from Columbia Road has started and is progressing according to our schedule.
The project is 70% complete and we anticipate the job being completed the
first week of January, weather permitting.

2. Please post to this list the scope of work - what exactly has been
contracted to be done, and if the original plan has changed, please list that
plan.

The scope of work is divided into two phases. Phase 1 of the project
consist of the restoration and upgrading of existing playground and tot lot.
Phase 2 consist of re-paving of existing concrete walkways.
3. You probably already have a "punch list" of thinks that should have
been done - but weren't, could you post that here and keep it updated.
Listed below are the remaining punch list items to be completed at Kalorama:
Adjust height of bench at north end of large playground.
Cut drain hole in existing playground apparatus (Spring Plane).
Re-seed open area, located to the southwest of the Tot-Lot.

The targeted completion date of the punch list items is early January 2005.

4. Neighbors will likely find work that has not been completed or not
up to spec. Could you list the person(s) who should be fed this information?

The DPR project manager for Kalorama is Ali Hassen. Mr. Hassen can be
reached by phone on 541-6457 or by e-mail at _Ali.Khassen at dc.gov_
(mailto:Ali.Khassen at dc.gov)
5. You are probably aware, that as you open this process to the
community - people come forward with a list of new things that they think should be
done. There should be someone who collects those kinds of suggestions -
probably in partnership with the community - who is it that is collecting those
suggestions?
Suggestions should be forwarded to Ali Hassen. Mr. Hassen can be reached by
phone on 541-6457 or by e-mail at _Ali.Khassen at dc.gov_
(mailto:Ali.Khassen at dc.gov) .
6. The Kalorama Park project has been delayed, for various reasons,
could you post what those reasons were/are and what is being done to resolve
them?
The project was temporarily delayed due to unsuitable soil being found on
the site.
7. With any project there will be cost overruns, could you list them
all and keep us informed so that by the end of the project we will know the
exact total amount that has been spent.

The only additional cost incurred as part of this project was $13,885.00.
This cost was related to the removal and disposal of the unsuitable soil found
on the site. This cost also included furnishing and installing new
geotechnical fabric and compact R6.
8. Could you list all the people who have responsibility for this project?
Who designed it, planned it, found the contractors, who is person involved
with the overall coordination and who's the person responsible for seeing that
what has been contracted is done according to specification.

Ali Hassen is the DPR project manager whose overseeing the Temple Group on
this project to ensure that work is been completed according to specification
and is responsible for the overall coordination. All correspondence related
to the project should be forwarded to Mr. Hassen with a cc to myself.

This project did not require designers or engineering services.

9) Along with all the contractors - could you also provide a complete
list of subcontractors and consultants involved with this project?

The Temple Group has been hired by DPR as the prime consultant/contractor on
this project. Triple J Construction is the sub-contractor for phase one of
the project and Lakeview Construction is the sub-contractor for phase two of
the project.
Thanks,

Jackie Stanley

Dear Jackie Stanley,
Thanks so much for your note. As someone in the middle of a re-construction
project, myself, I
know how variable things get. Good communications helps a lot, and your
first note was terrific.
1) I was wondering if you could keep this list informed as to the task

if the original plan has changed, please list that plan.
3) You probably already have a "punch list" of thinks that should have been
done - but weren't,
could you post that here and keep it updated.
4) Neighbors will likely find work that has not been completed or not up to
spec. Could you list
the person(s) who should be fed this information.

Thanks in advance. Eddie Becker
